2009 isn't in this decade bruh.

I do remember loving Public Enemies, though I didn't rate it. I'm gonna rewatch that one soon so I can rate it.
I actually had trouble coming up with a 10th movie that I wanted to list so I went with past 10 years instead of this decade. I think I could've listed Winter's Bone or Midnight in Paris but I haven't seen either recently.

In no particular order (and if I were to make this list tomorrow, it would probably be different)...

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close - Did not care for this movie at all and I typically really enjoy puzzle type of movies, but this did not work for me.
Wolf of Wall Street - Solid pick
Birdman (not that I necisarily enjoyed it, but it was an achievement in film making) -I think its a solid pick, but what achievement in film making did it make?
Boyhood (see Birdman) - Another I did not care for at all. I will say that I LOVE the idea the director had with essentially making this movie over the course of 12 years with the same actors specifically to SHOW them growing up before our eyes. Buuuut I didn't like the movie.
Kingsmen - Fun movie It wouldn't make even my top 20 in terms of top to bottom good movie, but it was fun.
John Wick - Pretty much same as Kingsmen. Cool movie, but not top to bottom a great movie.
Ted - Funny, but not great.
Baby Driver - Overrated. I enjoyed it (don't get me wrong), but people were talking to me about this like it was going to win Best Picture. Saw it, liked it,... next.
Whiplash - Solid pick. JK does an amazing job and it is one of the few movies where I can actually stand Miles.
Cabin in the Woods - Pretty good movie. Much better than I thought it was going to be.

Honorable mention...

Concussion - Never saw.
Infinity War - Entertaining for sure, but many silly movie mistakes particularly in editting.
Lucy - I didn't care for this and I WANTESD to like it. Just think it was written poorly.
Big Short - Solid movie. Though at times I felt like it was trying too hard to be smart.
American Hustle - Never saw.

I've seen Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger and thought they were very good movies......

Never heard of Shadow Recruit.....

But I thought Sun was the best of the 3.....

Sun? I assume you mean Sum?

I would say that I think Sum of all Fears is the most entertaining/action packed movie of the group, but no doubt in my mind, Clear and Present Danger is (in my opinion) the "best" movie of the series. Not counting The Hunt for Red October, because I will have to watch that again. Although, I am not a big Alec Baldwin fan, at some point I will see how it holds up though.

Any particular types of stories that people do not like or can't get into?

For me, it is easily 'time travel' movies. I can't stand them. I watch them all the time too, but my brain will not let me accept certain things lol so I keep looking until I find a problem... and I always do.

I like the general concept of the groundhogs day scenarios, but I did not like Edge of Tomorrow at all. I did think it was semi well made and genuinely funny, but I found the story completely ridiculous.

I don’t necisarily disagree with your comments. Whiplash was probably the best movie of the ‘10s to this point, and it doesn’t really stack up to other all-time great movies. I went with “fun” movies partly due to lack of competition, partly due to the fact I don’t want to stick with “art house fare”.

I commented on Birdman because of the “one take” hook (I was able to notice at least 3 or 4 cuts, so the editing wasn’t GREAT) and the general arty real it had. Like I said, I didn’t really enjoy the movie, but it was well done. Boyhood was added for similar reasons. I didn’t enjoy the movie (pointless story), but the sheer size and dedication of the project is impressive.

"The Mule" is another great performance by Clint Eastwood.

While I do think that the 2015 Nominee list for Best Picture was the best I've seen in a long time, Whiplash would have been 2nd or 3rd for me in THAT year. But it was definitely good, most likely in my top 10 for the decade. Definitely top 20. Now that you mention it, I do rememeber those Birdman shots, definitely cool.

Saw Murder on the Orient Express.

My only experience with Agatha Christie is reading And Then There Were None in elementary school. I enjoyed it quite a bit and I was looking forward to this movie.

The movie didn't work for me. My understanding is that this is like the 8th Poirot book. It doesn't seem made as an introductory story.

Depps accent was very distracting and Ridley doesn't add anything in this. The rest of the actors are good but the movie just felt pointless outside of introducing the detective.

That is because Depp is a terrible actor. However, he does pass off a drunken sailor partially okay. Even though that is practically all he does any more.

He was a good actor but he has been done for years, imo.

Every time I see him I see a guy that realizes that most of his success comes from his looks. Now that he is old, he seems desperate for relevance. His role in Murder on the Orient Express is a bit role. His only job is to be shifty and suspicious. Instead he overacts with a thick accent but never fully gives you the impression that he is a terrible person. The whole movie hinges on him being a terrible person. Instead he just comes off as pushy.

Lone Ranger was Depp jumping the shark. I think he would've been mostly done regardless but instead his is just kinda embarrassing at this point.

Not a fan of the horror genre, or anything that takes place in real or fictional medieval times - knights, dragons, etc.

Yeah, I don't like medieval films either... especially is there is "magic" involved.

I haven't taken the time to lay out the top 10 myself, but these movies would be up for consideration...

Spotlight
Grand Budapest Hotel
Silver Linings Playbook
Whiplash
Get Out
The Wolf of Wallstreet
Manchester by the Sea
127 Hours
Moneyball
Gone Girl
Prisoners
Birdman
The Social Network
The Martian

And for full disclosure, Grand Budapest Hotel would more than likely be my number 1 movie of the decade.

To each their own.

Found my second movie of the day. Forgot about that one and at the time I really wanted to see it.

If we went back another year, I would absolutely have Inglorious Basterds on the list as well.

I thought the movie was a blast to watch once we got past the nazi hunting jews part but that part was such a mind blowing way to start a movie. I thoughts parts drug on needlessly in spots. One of his trademarks.
