3) Wins

The 2012 team had a great run defense, and the biggest weakness was pass rush (something that wouldn’t be a factor against NU). Add in the sheer size and athleticism of the 12 team, and I’d give the edge to Bama.

That said, comparing across eras is tricky. Either of those teams would slaughter 01 Michigan, but they still were a holy terror in their day. Probably the best ever relative to the competition.

Tough to call, but this is definitely one of the better teams I have seen in my day... If you guys finish the deal of course... Big one to play still obviously.

I think Clemson is might be the best they have been as well... I thought they would had a fall off on offense this year, but with sunshine taking the snaps they are pretty good too.

See, I wanted to think that as well... and I'm a husker fan obviously. The only reason I would keep that conversation alive after the UGA game is that they will have to have beaten #4 Oklahoma as well as (we now know) #2 Clemson. Their schedule is meh... but the playoff helps as they have to beat 2 top 4 teams, they playing more games and on top of all of that they beat every opponent by 22 points or more with the only exceptions now being UGA and OU.


As to the direct question at hand... My heart says no way, my head considers the possibility.

Now seriously, this I do agree with. Comparing teams across eras is so difficult simply because so much has changed. Back in the 90's, Nebraska was the bigger and more athletic team... but that was because Nebraska had FAR greater strength and conditioning program than anyone else. Nowadays everyone institutes what Nebraska was doing and people have mastered it and gotten even bigger ad stronger since then.

In my opinion, when judging greatest teams of all time there really only needs to be 2 factors accounted for.

1. Schedule (ranked opponents or opponents records)
2. MoV = Margin of victory.

These dumbass arguments of 01 Miami is better because they had this many draft picks is nonsense. Draft picks are decided after the fact and irrelevant to the question at hand. It is a team sport, so it matters what you did as a team. Not how good you are independently or in the NFL, but specifically as a team in college. Problem with 01 Miami like someone else said is that they struggled to beat a couple teams. But no doubt 01 Miami deserves to be somewhere in the top 10, just not #1.

Similar can be said with 2013 FSU. You look at their MoV, they were utterly destructive.....but then you look at who they played and they had one of the worst schedules of any team to win a national title in the modern era. So they're out.
