"With the Rangers unlikely to contend before 2021, they must consider trading some of their arbitration-eligible players, who are closing in on free agency, for guys they would control longer. Prime examples: Jurickson Profar, who has re-established his value and would be a free agent after 2020, and even Nomar Mazara, who is in his first year of arbitration, but is also part of a glut of left-handed hitting corner outfielder/DH types.

If the Rangers can trade them for multiple young prospects, well, that is the position they are in. They haven't been there for a while, but it is the reality of reconstructing a long-term contender."

I get getting value for a guy like Profar if his stock is up but would think this is more a midseason move. Sentimentally i would like to keep him. Has intangibles in meaningful games IMO.

At some point more likely next year, we may need to extend guys we want to keep. If 2020 is projected to be a bust then yes it pushes off extensions. The As struck gold on pitching so maybe we can do a bit better so we can legitimately compete in 2020.

Assuming Choo is here I say he gets just a little over 300. If Choo is moved then he gets over 425. Still a chance he gets moved

If Choo is here for all of 2019 Calhoun gets less than 200 PA's

Calhoun will play some LF get some DH time and get some pinch hitting worst case scenario. Between some injury starts and platoon he could get 80 plus starts. A trade could increase his starts too.

So this may be a bit optimistic if no changes are made but there is no Rua on squad and at this point we are uncertain if DDJ will back although are reports are he will. But even still at this point Gallo is his backup on off days against RHP. I

Hence, my original comment about the front office. Choo should not be here. The front office messed that situation up.

That is what the Mathis acquisition told me. The media all thought it was to work with the pitchers, but those pitchers he will be on the team with are just as short term as he is. I thought all along that Mathis must have been acquired to work with IKF or a Rule 5 guy or both.

I don't think it is about cheapness at all. I think they made a baseball decision to go with IKF.

My mistake, he has already been in the organization 11 years and Kirkman only survived 10 years here.
He has had a lot more success than Kirkman ever did. Of course, that isn't saying much.
