Anyone agree with Adam Morris about the Rangers and Machado?

Hence, my original comment about the front office. Choo should not be here. The front office messed that situation up.

Takes two to make a deal. Maybe no takers at this point and to just give him away sets a bad precedent for future transactions

Not the move I would make. Still pay for pitching first but let's see how the price ends up. Some say his stock went down.
I like him a lot.

He may be the next Michael Kirkman that they just can't give up on.

I’d nominate kirkman for the ranger who had the biggest disparity between most hype and underperformance.

It seemed like he was billed as the next great rangers homegrown pitcher, he was constantly trotted out there, constantly giving up runs, they’d make excuses saying he was hurt, bring him back, and he’d give up more runs.

Money should be no problem even with a Machado. They are so far under previous budgets that one hitter is not going to keep them from doing what they intend on doing with pitching.

I don't think they are looking to get saddled with a huge pitching contract for an ace. That us just too risky.

Signing position players and growing your own pitching is the way to go it seems.

Daniels conceded, however, that there are other factors which outweigh the quality of a team’s ballpark – including finances, the happiness of the player’s family and whether the team chasing him is in position to win.

the Rangers will not be in a position that will entice quality players in 2020 and maybe for the next couple of years after the move. they will still be at best the 4th team in a 5 team division behind the Astros, the A's and the Angels. not much of an incentive to attract players looking to win and reach the playoffs

Wow a bit of a surprise. That means IKF will double his starts behind the plate.

Guess it is cheaper to add a UIF than a backup catcher
doubling IKF's starts behind the dish would only be up to 70 starts which leaves 92 starts uncovered and I don't see Mathis as a 92 game starter

I see them Rule Ving a guy and then giving each 40-70 starts behind the plate, depending on the circumstances

You have no way of knowing that

That would seem to be a very real possibility.

I am not sure why it is shocking for some to think IKF could start 80 games or more at Catcher in 2019. It isn't like he did a bad job at the position last year. It also isn't like any problems he might encounter as he continues to grow into the position is going to keep us out of the postseason.

Some free agents sign with teams that aren't that great. Money speaks to these guys very loudly. When we are ready to spend we have a ton of money to spend in free agency.

probably true but most quality players are now looking for something beyond the money

Not shocked but surprised as we need 162 starts from our catching Corp and Mathis is not a huge workload guy. IKF can certainly catch almost half of he games. I thought losing Alberto made him a super UIF and catcher.

What would surprise me is if we take in another catcher for the 25 man and IKF catches 80 plus games

But of course it should not surprise me that I am surprised

I said most, Beltre was unique he is one of the few who feel loyalty
Okay then, let's use ARod as an example. He signed here after we lost 91 games.

How good were we when Nolan signed here.

Last year's top money maker in free agency was Eric Hosmer. He signed with the Padtes after they has lost 91 games.
