I won't be there, but I'll be at home watching the game as always. I think I'll even put on my Sherman jersey for the first time this year. Why wouldn't I cheer the man who was one of our teams most important leaders in our most successful years.
The personality traits that are pissing you all off, are the same traits that made him the best corner I've ever seen on our team. Richard has always been a supremely confident brash, say it like it is kinda guy. I always liked that about him, I still do.
This man was one of our best. WELCOME BACK RICHARD!!!

Now kick the shit out of this pathetic team Hawks!!

I respect Sherm for his play and helping this franchise getting their first SB trophy but they way he left kind of soured me. Once he's retired raising the flag, I'll give him his standing O.

Skimmed the thread, but if you're counting me, nope. I'm just in favor of using him for the rest of this season.

JMR and Seahawks_3 mentioned it.

Based off his press conference with 49ers beat writers, Sherman:

- Doesn't like Russell
- Still mad at the Seahawks

Reading between the lines:

1) Sherman was more likely than not jealous of the preferable treatment for Wilson. And why not? QB’s will always have the preferable treatment.

2) Sherman does not think much of Wilson, meaning he does not think Wilson is a good QB, but rather benefited from the stout defense. On the contrary, Wilson is very good.

3) Wilson’s robotic nature annoyed Sherman. But it’s okay for Sherman to lash out because that’s his nature. Very hypocritical.

4) Sherman is apparent still very anal with how he was let go. I believe he wanted to finish his career here. DB’s comments suggested that and one day after he retired, the animosity will subside. He made it easy for the Hawks to get rid of him by continuing to lash out at PC after the SB loss.

Good points.

If Sherm was jealous of Wilson because of perceived special treatment then he'd be just as disapointed anywhere else too. QB's get treated different. It's just the way it is. The league and the teams don't even try to hide it. They make the QBs wear red vests in practice so they don't get hit. In actual NFL games their are probably a dozen official and unofficial rules regarding how you can hit a QB. So ya, they get special treatment. Sherm's a smart guy so he should understand that.

I think some of the resentment came from some players who didn't like Wilson's goody goody boy scout schtick. They see it as an act to make himself for marketable. But I think now that he's in his 7th year it's obvious that how Wilson acts is just how he is. It isn't an act at all. He's just that guy. But I remember a few black Seahawk players accusing Wilson of not acting "black enough". Remember that? So that could be part of the Sherm resentment too.

And last, if Sherm wanted to play his entire career as a Seahawk he could have easily made that happen. All he needed to do was give Seattle the same terms that he agreed to with San Fran and there's a good chance Seattle would have taken it. Sherman is essentially playing for only $5M this year in salary. Plus he got another $5M signing bonus that will spread over 3 years. And if (huge IF, and not likely) he makes the probowl he gets another $3M. If Sherm would have taken that deal in Seattle he'd probably have been signed to it.

Am I going crazy or have 2 of you today supported resigning a guy who's definitely going to prison after this season?
I would be just fine re-signing Kendricks. We already knew he was in trouble with the law before he got to the team earlier in the year.

It's not "personality traits" that is my issue. It's behavior. Not the same. I agree he was on of the best Hawks ever, but that doesn't give him license to behave however he wants and be free of any kind of consequence. I probably will not boo on Sunday, but I won't be jumping for joy to welcome him back.

True. And the kind of legal trouble makes a difference too. It's not like he was beating his wife or got caught drinking and driving. He has plead guilty to insider trading. Not great, but it's a different level of crime in my books.

Hopefully Seattle fans applaud him. He was a big reason Seattle won their first Super Bowl.

Totally agree. It happened several years ago, it wasn't a violent crime that would indicate he is a bad guy, and he was contrite and tried to make it right. I don't think a 2nd chance should be automatic, but this is the kind of guy who I think should get one.

I'm all for second chances, but I don't think the Hawks will be able to offer him one if he gets sentenced to 30 - 34 months in jail starting in January like is expected to happen. If he goes to prison for 2.5 to 3 years his NFL career is finished.

Signing him for this season knowing he'd be sentenced in Jan. and signing him for next season knowing he'll be sentenced in Jan. are 2 completely different scenarios. Why would any team use up money and a roster spot on a guy who will be in prison? It has nothing to do with the crime itself and everything to do with not signing a player who is 100% unavailable to help your team.

Well, clearly the team is not going to sign a guy who cannot play due to being in prison. Figured that would be implied when I said I would be ok with bringing him back, but my fault for not identifying that.

He's due for sentencing in Jan I believe, so they should have that information well in hand before free agency begins; therefore, they'll still have a crack at him before any other team. As far as how much of a sentence he's going to get, 15 years ago Martha Stewart got 5 months behind bars plus 5 months of house arrest for her insider trading incident, and she also lied about it during the process and certainly was not as forthcoming about the mistake as Kendricks. Comparing the 2 may not be 100% instructive or predictive as to what is going to happen, but I would still have to think Kendricks' hit is going to be less than Stewart's. Not only did Stewart get nailed for the insider trading, but she got busted for lying to the government about it as well as obstructing justice.

He's expected to get 30 to 34 months. He might only serve 5 or 6 months of that in jail, but who knows? If he goes to court in January and they are extremely lenient on him (say 4 or 5 months) then that would make him available for the full next season starting in September 2019. If that's the case then I'd say sign him up. And anyhow, I'm sure a contract can be drafted right now that could deal with any potential jail time he might get and some loopholes added to it to get us out of it if he gets more time than expected.

Yep, I agree on a contingency type contract that protects the team in the event a prison term prevents availability to play.

What's the source for the expected sentence?

I pulled it from Wikipedia, but apparently it was sourced by Adam Shefter. Shefter is usually pretty darn accurate.

Insider trading charges and plea
In August 2018, Kendricks was charged with insider trading, allegedly making $1.2 million from investments in 2014. Damilare Sonoiki was also charged for his involvement. Kendricks allegedly paid Sonoiki $10,000 and gave him free tickets to Eagles games.

Kendricks pleaded guilty to his charges on September 6, 2018, and faces possible penalties of up to 25 years in prison, although journalist Adam Schefter reported the likely length would be 30–37 months. [44] He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 24, 2019. On October 2nd of 2018, Kendricks was indefinitely suspended from the NFL. [45]

Interesting. I would definitely defer to Shefter's judgment on football stuff, but this is something different. I'm sure he has access to lawyers who are probably giving him their best assessment, so I'll draw credibility from that. I am certainly no lawyer, but I just have a hard time believing his penalty will be stiffer than what someone else got who also lied and obstructed to try to cover up/deny. I guess we'll see.

Getting back to the Sherman return, and something I was just thinking about. Someone had mentioned earlier in the thread about how they are glad the NFL doesn't do highlight videos for returning players while they are on another team. I actually would LOVE for the Hawks to do a video for Sherman pre-game. Start it with warm and fuzzy highlights but end on him tipping the ball against his now 49er squad showing the dejected Niners walking off the field; maybe throw in his interview with Erin Andrews as the cherry on top, lol.
