I can agree with this. However the offense is unknown in my book. I think it will go as far as Trubisky and Nagy take it. If they can turn it around like Goff and McVay did in LA, this team will be a real contender.

I may be wrong but I just don't believe Trubisky will ever be anything but a game manager. He doesn't make any big plays.

Well, you have to consider the coaching staff he had. The bears brought in glennon to let Trubisky sit for a year and Fox had to start trubisky because Glennon was awful. The playcalling for that team was horribly predictable. Run, Run, Pass, every set of downs. Defenses knew what was coming and if I remember correctly, Trubisky was still pretty good on third down. Now they got an Andy Reid offensive understudy who Reid was quoted as saying he’s the most NFL Head Coach ready of any of his assistants in the past. The schemes are going to be much more inventive. I’m more worried about Trubisky’s ability to grasp the playbook than I am anything else with him. If he can just be as good as Alex Smith, this offense will be good. I don’t think that is unrealistic in the slightest.

I disagree. Next years draft will be pretty bad since they don’t have a first or second, but in 2020 they have 2 2nd rounders. Pace has also been very good at finding talent late in drafts. I doubt he would’ve found anyone as impactful as Mack with their first round picks the next two years. Without Mack, I doubt they would’ve been picking as high as they did this year anyway. With Mack, they could be a top ten team in the nfl. I love the move. I love Pace as GM. He made a ballsy move to get the QB he wanted. He made a ballsy move to address the lone issue with the bears defense and make it a humongous strength. I think big moves will pay off, but even if they don’t, I can appreciate the courage it took to make the team better as he sees it.

What you’re missing here is the bears have plugged all their glaring holes. They don’t need top draft picks that they hope will pan out now. They can address RT and defensive depth in the later rounds of the draft.

I get it. I also want to say that I usually hate the bears going into the season. I thought the Cutler trade was stupid, I really thought Orton was better. I had hope for the last GM, until he gave Cutler the biggest contract in the nfl. I was notorious for calling out bears homers on the bears board (bear down and noonthirty can attest to that since I called both of them out at times) I love this move as I don’t think the bears would have a chance of drafting a player of Mack’s caliber. I haven’t been this excited for a season to start in over a decade. I was excited before the trade.

Let's say you nabbed one of the top-ranked fantasy D/STs in the middle rounds of your draft? You are feeling good. They're playing the Patriots in Week 1. Now what are you gonna do? You better head to the waiver wire for a pickup. It's better to streamline your D in FB.

A lot of teams are like this and they all would prefer a shorter field, but getting a shorter field in the bears case is the absolute key to their dreams of being successful this year.

I'm not sure anyone really knows what their offense can do. I mean, short fields are nice for any team, but how the O will play is a bit of an unknown, given the new coach and players, particularly at WR.

I agree with @beardown07 . They got three speedsters in Cohen, Miller, and Gabriel. They could easily take the top off a defense. They also have Burton, Shaheen(when he gets healthy), and brown who can make effective 3 TE sets. They also have big WRs in Robinson, White, and Wims. They have a shit load of versatility this year. Add in the fact hat they have an inventive offensive HC who will be calling the plays, and I expect a lot from the offense this year.

Other than one season there is nothing in their stats that suggests I am wrong. Additionally Kerrigan is one of only 7 or 8 defensive players to have at least 7.5 sacks in their first 7 years. But I knew you would think I don't know a thing. We'll see. I wouldn't have given up 2 No 1s and the most money in NFL history on defense for a guy that had 2 1/2 sacks less than Kerrigan the past two years.

Now talk Calais Campbell or Chandler Jones and I am all ears. Fans fall in love with players without stats to back in up. This will piss a lot of people off but Sean Taylor is the same guy. He might have been that good if he had lived but he was only starting to get there when his life came to a tragic end.

Just 2 extra All Pros and a DPOY. Pretty consensus top 3-5 defensive player in the NFL. But sure just the fans falling in love with him.

Reminder...those 1st round picks probably wont be as good as you think they'll be.

We likely overvalue picks in comparison to proven NFL talent. The true value in picks comes from the fact that if you DO hit you can lock in cheap talent. The odds of getting that talent however arent great and the odds of getting a Mack level talent are miniscule.

He was a top five defensive player too. Is Mack really that good? He had one great season.

As for why you don’t pay him...he hasn’t performed in our system and he may be better than either first rounder. Aside from the cost of the picks is the cost of the contract.
