He was a top five defensive player too. Is Mack really that good? He had one great season.

As for why you don’t pay him...he hasn’t performed in our system and he may be better than either first rounder. Aside from the cost of the picks is the cost of the contract.

He wasnt on Mack's level. I am also not sure where you're getting that Mack had one good season? And Haynesworth was a known head case. Mack is not.

Yea the contract is the biggest thing in favor of the picks. But the cap is pretty reasonable to play around with. And the odds of ending up with players worth as much as him is very low.

well let’s look at what we would have without Payne and Allen . Settles and pimpkins or Francis. Or Caleb ? Phil Taylor ?

And without dox we go to war with quick. In his steed ? Now we haven’t looked at the cap hit

Yeah, he's THAT good. I know that there are some who want to use comparative statistics, but that doesn't supply a full picture about players. How does one measure disruptiveness? How do we measure influence in making other players more effective? There are statistics and then there's the eye test, so based on what he brings beyond statistics, yeah, he's that good!

Well no. Thats assuming we didnt change our actions after the trade which makes no sense.

We would be better off at those positions than you are suggesting. Oh and we'd have a DPOY candidate at one of the most important positions on our defense.

I've watched this same movie in the NFL for years. They may get one to two pro bowl type seasons from him

This type of trade has never happened in the NFL. Players like Kahlil Mack get resigned and it’s a no brainer. Edge rushers like Kahlil Mack are always resigned by the team that drafted or traded for them early in their careers. Nothing like this trade has ever happened in the nfl. Name one time it did. A trade for the best pass rusher in the nfl (ok top 3 if your a skeptic) has never happened.

true. trades like this usually involve QB's. Hey, I just got Robinson in my fantasy draft. Lets hope Trib finds him early and often.

True these trades usually don't happen, but players switching teams and schemes, getting paid mega bucks have. Most of the time they don't live up to the hype. The bears already had a good defense, in fact I picked them up on my fantasy team and yes they should be better with Mack. Still think way too much capital was lost though

I got him in a draft too, but only because he slipped way past where he should. I really believe that Anthony Miller will be the WR to have on that team.

Meh, if you look at it like this years first pick is Mack, you’re trading a first, third and sixth for a second (that’s most likely top of the round) and fifth. Clearly you lose that first, but you’re assuming the bears can draft a player (or two if you want to say it’s two firsts for Mack) that can dominate like Mack does. You have less than a 5% chance of drafting a player like Mack each pick. The chance gets lower the further back in the draft you get. Without mack, I don’t think the bears pick any higher than they did this year. Grabbing a Mack after 8 is unheard of.

Look at any tandem of first round picks you wouldn’t trade for Mack from each team from the last 5 years. The only team I can think of is the Rams with gurley and Donald.

Please, provide other examples for me. I got to be ready for the skeptics at work tomorrow.

lol, if the bears and fans are happy that's all that matters. We should have our answer in a few years

Want to give me examples? Or are you surrendering this argument? I know all of the raider draft picks have sucked in the first round other than Mack and maybe cooper (juries still out on him, I hope he kicks ass this year since I drafted him in fantasy). Maybe you guys can get another Jamarcus Russell.

I'm not a raiders fan if that was meant to be a shot, and no I don't have time to look at tandems nor feel like it. I'm not trying to troll in anyway, this is our board. I'm sure there is some good tandems that can be found. Right now I'm pretty happy with our last two to tell you the truth. They still have to prove it though. Not surrendering the argument. We'll have the answer in a few years if I'm wrong, I'll say I was wrong

Terrible trade for the Bears for what they gave up. Terrible. Mack is a fantastic player - perennial all-pro, but the amount the bears gave up prevents them from continuing to build their team.

Simply put: with Mack, the Bears are CLEARLY the third best team in the NFC North, and may still be the worst team (depending on if the Lions get a running game / secondary).

They aren't currently going to beat out either the vikings or the Packers (assuming Rodgers is healthy), they lack the draft capital to replace at least one of their draft picks who don't pan out (they never do), and they can't spend lavishly on free agents next year due to all the money they tied up into free agents this year.

Yeah, I’m a bit drunk, I apologize. What about redskin first rounders you wouldn’t trade for Khalil Mack?

One for one?

There isn't a single first rounder that was drafted by the redskins that I wouldn't trade for Mack, straight up.

This is where it gets tricky. What about 2 for 1? Keep in mind you’ll probably get the 33rd-38th pick in addition. This is assuming you draft the best possible player too. I honestly think people ripping this trade are just jealous they weren’t able to get the best edge rusher for such a reasonable price.

It wasn't a reasonable price, Beengay. Your Bears got fleeced.

I wouldn't trade Allen and Payne for Mack. For starters, if I traded Allen and Payne for Mack, I'd have only Ionnidis to play DT. Then it wouldn't matter how great Mack was, opposing teams could avoid him altogether by running up the gut.

I wouldn't trade Allen and Payne for Mack even if that wasn't the case. Both Allen and Payne look like pretty good dlinemen, which are the cornerstones, the linchpins if you will - to running a successful 3-4 defense.

Outside linebacker is NOT a cornerstone to a successful 3-4.

I wouldn't trade Hall and Payne for Mack.
Utter nonsense.

Point to the weakness in the Bears that validate the worry of losing ostensibly ONE first rd pick?

I know no one wants to believe it, but the Bears have quietly built a very good, young team.

Watch out en sech
