Nope. First time I've seen it, and thought it was well done until I could no longer figure out what the payoff was. So yeah, ultimately I was disappointed as well.

The ending was kind of weak, but I loved the movie. The scene with the demon "consuming" Jay's former boyfriend using his mom's form is creepy as hell.

Just watched Anihilation:

First off, it is debatable if this could be defined as a horror movie. It certainly has horrific moments and it the overall message is pretty scary but the overall movie itself is more sci-fi and a bit too bent on trying to be intellectually artsy.
That being said, there is some pretty awesome stuff in this movie and I feel it is well worth a look.

There is an anomaly they call "The Shimmer" which has sprung up and is slowly expanding outward. You can't see in it, no radio waves, satellites, or other equipment seems to be able to penetrate it. They keep sending in scientists and soldiers but no one comes out except 1, Natalie Portman's boyfriend, who isn't in great shape. Of course Natalie is former military and a biologist so she volunteers to go in with an all-female bad-ass team led by Jennifer-Jason Leigh. Once in, things get weird pretty quickly (I'll leave it at that).

Overall, a lot of good mixed with some bad. Visually the cinematography is very good and the special fxs are absolutely spectacular. The story is pretty cool, basically the feel of a Predator flick blended into a H.P. Lovecraft tale. The potential is HUGE to have made a brilliant action-horror classic.......but unfortunately it gets in its own way trying to send a message or two. This where the "bad" comes in. The character development is very low and the acting is flat, not due to the actors but instead to the fact that the story is delivered in a dream-like atmosphere for some sort of misguided ambience. Also, the story develops at a slower than necessary pace when it could have put forward the needed information and jumped into the cool stuff a lot more quickly.

All in all, I'll go with a 7.5 rating with a note of disappointment. The good stuff is top notch good but the bad drags it down. It is frustrating because it could have been a classic by only making the characters show more (some!) realistic emotion, and moving the story along a bit quicker with more of the cool creatures and action. It also gets a bit weird and trippy towards the conclusion. But check it out if you have a chance.

watched a few that were either streaming on netflix/prime/hulu. some may border horror more than be horror.

Mom and Dad - If you've seen the trailer, you know the gist of what the movie is about. It's a movie that let's Nick Cage go full Nick Cage, if that's your thing, definitely give it a go.

The Gift - More mystery/thriller. It had a nice pace to it. Good job by Hall and Edgerton.

Images - Old movie out of this bunch. schizo writer, bit of a dream state of a movie, really liked the score.

The Cured - zombies get cured, but society doesn't trust them. feel like it was more of a drama, than anything.

They're Watching - Follows a reality tv show type format of a house being redone in a foreign country. Certainly nowhere near the best in the genre, best moments were probably the laughable effects they used at the end of the movie.

Truth or Dare - Don't know if anyone had the pleasure of watching this one yet. Hopefully you didn't. I know with a teen horror movie the potential for me to get annoyed is high, this movie didn't let me down. Just dumb reaction after dumb reaction and it kept getting dumber. They could probably rework the Tag movie that's out now and make a more compelling horror story.

Spot on review. It was visually compelling and had some very unique concepts but I too thought it tried too hard to establish a message, and would have liked to see more emphasis on the horrifying elements. The bear was particularly memorable, however fairly short-lived. The survival element did kick in quickly but too many drawn out scenes mixed between the heightened moments which diluted the overall suspense. A simpler approach would have been better but I don’t think the writers wanted this to become a horror film. Also didn’t help that I have never cared for Natalie Portman. She always seems too wooden and unlikable. Makes it hard for me to watch anything with her in it. I was very apprehensive about watching this film, but I was glad I did. The sci fi elements were very unique and worth the watch. And the ending was pretty cool & unexpected.

Yea I unfortunately gave that a watch a few weekends ago. Lots of stupidity. Pretty sure I lost interest & fell asleep before the climax.

There was another movie titled Truth Or Dare made some time ago that was a lot better than this new one.

The 2012 one from the UK also known as Truth or Die? I did catch that one a couple years ago. Much better, granted that's not saying much.

Portman was wooden but, in all fairness, generally everyone was wooden. Even Jennifer Jason Leigh, whom I think is a great actress, didn't show a lot of range. That is why I believe it was an intentional mood decision by the director. Unfortunately it was a stupid decision.

They didn't want a horror movie but they had a few horror scenes and scenery. The visuals were amazing but more creatures like the bear and alligator, and having to deal with them, would have only improved the movie.

Again, in my mind this movie got so much right but failed horribly on what it got wrong. It could have been an all-timer but instead it is "only" a quite good movie. It might be horror but there is a huge Lovecraft influence in there.

Channel Surfing Day: Settled on Jennifer's Body, prolly 'cause I felt like checkin' out some hot Megan Fox. This is another movie that coulda been something; it coulda been a horror contender.

Unfortunately, I think the writer and director thought they were just too cool for the room.

Is it a horror movie? Is it a dark comedy? Is it a statement on today's society? Is it all three? Who knows??

Too bad, really; all sexist jokes aside, Fox, Amanda Seyfried and the rest of the cast do a nice job. It woulda been nicer if they'd had an established direction.

All that said, it ain't the worst movie to watch on a lazy Saturday. :)

If you've been living in a cave or under a large rock.....it's a shark movie.

The shark eats people.

The shark loses ultimately.

The end.
