Good news: The KC Drama is OVER!
Bad News: Alex Fucking Smith!

Now that THAT's out of the way, let's continue with our regularly scheduled "offseason planning session" thread, mmmmmmmkay?

Let's start with Redskins Free agents - because we all KNOW how important it is for the franchise to take care of their OWN free agents, can I get an amen?!?!!?! (that was sarcasm, deanpet).

Redskins Free Agents:

Basically, they fall into three categories - "Must Sign," "should sign," and "meh"

Must Sign:
Zac Brown. - too much speed, literally nobody else that's good at MLB, led the team in tackles
Bashaud Breeland. - because he's good, and because you traded away Kendall Fuller, ASSHOLES!
Ryan Grant. - because he isnt flashy, but runs great routes and has very good hands. Also, who else you gonna run out there?

Should Sign:
Trent Murphy - 9 sacks is 9 sacks. So what if he juiced up to get those sacks? You can never have too many pass rushers
Spencer Long - Shouldn't this year be proof positive that you can't ever have enough good olinemen? Chase Roullier might be pretty damn good, but can't Long play more than one spot on the oline?
Niles Paul - career redskin-er. Good on special teams. Jack of all trades, master of none type. The team needs somebody like him, with Reed's 1o29381o29380192830198 injuries, and Vernon Davis being older than dirt.

Meh:
Gallette - vet minimum, or take a hike. Can get same production from speed rusher in 7th round.
Lavaou - turnstile who is always hurt. vet minimum, or take a hike.
Will Compton - I like Will Compton. So do opposing passers. The guy can't cover the broad side of a barn. Good leader, average skills.
Terrell Pryor - For the vet minimum, sure. For more than that? I don't think so.

pt 2 to come, NFL Free agents.

Good points. BUt this is Ashburnistan... Sooooo

We will resign Pryor, Gallett....

Brown and Breeland will be deemed to expensive

Niles.. being a career Redskin, but a Shanahan pick.... can not stay.

Grant will be the placation signing because he has pictures of Gruden doing odd things with a duck in his locker.

pt 2.

Free Agent Targets:

Here is a fairly definitive list of free agents, as provided by rotoworld.

2018 NFL Free Agent Tracker - Rotoworld.com

The redskins have a fair amount of needs, most notably rb, wr, dt, mlb, ol, and, as always, depth at s and cb

RB:
Carlos Hyde is about the only moderately priced rb that I see to target from this list. He can do everything fairly well: block, catch, run. He will cost significantly less than LeVeon Bell. He's not one dimensional.

WR:
If I was to sign anybody other than the redskins free agents, I'd sign Allen Robinson.
The dude's a stud who put up GREAT numbers with Blake Freakin' Bortles.
I wouldn't mind signing BOTH Robinson AND Richardson - a speed guy, or Watkins, or Moncrief

DT:
Frankly, the redskins need another DT. Allen and Ionman are good. Hood is not. Lainier is an unknown.
The DT can come from the draft OR from free agency. I don't like Dontari Poe, but I do like Bennie Logan and Richardson. I'd go with Logan first, though - less expensive.

MLB:
I don't know.
Hitchens? Is he good? Frankly, the redskins need another ILB, preferably one with speed. I don't know the names on this list, and excluded 30 year old or older MLBs

S/CB:

Kyle Fuller is a free agent. Wouldn't THAT be #soRedskins?!? He's also only 26.
Kenny Vaccaro - solid pick up. Not a gamechanger.

pt. 3 - draft

I would add although Zac Brown is a better player than Compton he isn't any better as a pass defender. Worth signing for early downs though.

Pt. 3 - the draft.

Ahhh yes... the draft.

I don't follow college football, so, you know....... I don't know any players in particular.

I believe we have the following draft picks as of now:

1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7.

Yes? A second 7th rounder for something or other. Derrick Carrier, maybe?

If KC goes to Cleveland or Denver, I'm thinking a trade down might be in order. If KC goes to Cleveland for example, then that's TWO top 5 picks that won't be on a qb. That'd be HUUUUUGEE.

I think it actually WOULD be a smart play to target a qb in either round 1 or 2. For starters: Alex Smith is old, sucky, and uninspiring. He can't throw deep, and has significantly less talent on offense than he had in KC. Finally, it's likely that Andy Reid made the Redskins his bitch again with this trade, because Andy Reid may be a terrible post season coach, but he sure as shit can fleece the redskins, and also seems to know when to get rid of his qb's before they exhaust all their value.

So let's say they DON'T trade down, and also DON'T get rid of their other picks.

I think they draft a qb, wr, and dt early. I think they can get depth at cb and s later. I'd like a speed rusher at the end of the draft. Jumpy Geathers type. Nothing but speed rush.

that is all.

Thoughts?

I really used to be 100% optimistic about this team.. really. Some of the old heads around her might remember that time.

Now its just come to every time Bruce and Dan make a move, I generally expect them to screw it up and hope they surprise me and dont.

Don't you think absolutely EVERYBODY who posts here regularly already knows that about you?

Here. Lemme help:

ATTENTION FELLOW READERS: SHARKINVA THINKS THAT THE REDSKINS ARE GOING TO SCREW IT UP. WHATEVER MOVE WE ARE DISCUSSING, WHATEVER IN GAME MANEUVER, WHATEVER SIGNING, OR FREE AGENT DECISION, OR COACHING DECISION, OR HIRING, OR FIRING, REST ASSURED: SHARKINVA THINKS THEY SCREWED IT UP!

Thats just it, not quite accurate though.

Things I think they did right

Hiring a GM (for as long as that lasted)
restraining from going all big spender in free agency the past few years
Taking Allen in last years draft and NOT panicking to get him
Drafting Scherff

I just happen to think that they do more harm than good. And that most of the moves they make are designed more for off the field value over on field production.

Maybe this year will be the year they convince me to not be so negative. But its not starting off well. Cheers Homey.

The plan shouldn’t change at all. Honestly, the trade should have no effect on our plans but it does give us less capital.

Will it change Bruce Allen’s plan? Probably not because this was his plan the whole time. Will it change his plan in eyes that aren’t convinc3d Bruce Allen is a fucking moron? Yep.

We don't need depth at safety. We need a safety.

Subject to change, but as of 2.2.18.

QB: I roll with Alex and Colt and do not draft a QB at all unless White or Rudolph is sitting there in the 4th and even then I probably pass. I spend my 1st in 19 on a QB and let him sit for two years and learn, the way Rodgers, Cousins, Garoppolo, Romo and others were able to.

RB: Sony Michel, Darius Guice, Nick Chubb, Ronald Jones II in that order of availability at 44.

C: They like Roullier so I roll with him and draft a center in the 6th or 7th.

G: SIGN NORWELL, and a make a real effort to convince Spencer Long to come back. The lack of depth got exposed last year. Long would be the first guard off the bench and I kill two birds with one stone, as he would also be the backup center.

T: Pick up a RT in the 5th

TE: Really wanted Fumagalli from Wisconson in the 3rd but now will have to re-sign Paul or go get the best run blocking TE on the market in Lee Smith from Oakland.

WR: Landry or Richardson. I hear Landry wants to go back to Miami and he would cost a ton. I'd rather spend big on Norwell anyways, so give me Richardson for half of what Landry is gonna cost. Landry would not hurt my feelings though. He and Alex looked real good together last weekend.

DL: Save 900K by cutting McClain. Allen, Ioannidis, Lanier II, and McGee are my rotation. Draft Da'Ron Payne, and keep Hood as the rotation guy. He's a leader in that locker room.

MLB: Re-sign Zach Brown, move Anderson inside where he belongs, and I'm set there. If Anderson can't make the switch, I look at Compton. If the asking price is too high, I bring back Vigil.

OLB: Kerrigan on one side and Galette, Smith and either Anderson or Murphy battle it out in pre-season on the other side. I give Preston first crack though. We need to know as he is up for an extension.

CB: Re-sign Breeland and have him play the slot on 3rd down. I like Breeland in the slot anyways. He's a.sure tackler, uses his hands well and would have more help when he gets beat over the top as he tends to do from time to time. I seriously monitor the Talib situation. Talib and Norman on the outside with DJ and maybe even a Minkah Fitpatrick back there too could really help the pass rush. If Breeland walks and Denver holds on to Talib, I ask about Kyle Fuller.

FS: Nicholson and Armani Watts in the 4th.

SS: DJ, Everett and maybe a late pick 6 or 7 STs guy.

K: I give Rose a real shot in camp to unseat Dustin.

Bring Way and Sunberg back.

With losing Fuller I'd go Ward over Roquan.

Denzel Ward – CB OSU

Vita Vea – NT Washington

Quenton Nelson – G Notre Dame

Calvin Ridley – WR Bama

Roquan Smith – ILB Georgia

We are on record as being 9-7, 8-7-1 and 7-9 from 2015 to last season respectively. (see a pattern?) In that time, a minimum 50% of those stellar finishes can be attributed to our top notch defense (Some will say a lot more and that's OK too). The point, I guess is, with fuller we horribly sucked and now without him, defensively, we suck more. What a loss {sarcasm}
