i was 1I wasn't alive, so I only hear stories about that team. My wife's grandfather, who has since passed, lived in Foxboro and had season tickets from the inaugural season until the late 80s. He loved that team. His favorite all time he always said. Then he would mumble "fucking Ben Dreith"
The 1978 team still holds the record for most rushing yards by a team post-merger.
Yeah, but '76 Steelers won 4 other SBs and '76 was considered the best team of their 70's run.2004 Steelers. Goddamned you patriots!
good list
1976 pats would have won a SB if not for sugar bears phantom roughing call. that team was a steamroller.

Certainly not guaranteed, but the Raiders did beat them. So the Patriots would have had a chance if they beat the Raiders. Plus the Pats had beaten the Steelers earlier in the year at PittsburghDoubtful with the Steelers' steel-curtain defense having their best season of their entire run.

So, they didn't split the Colts into their Baltimore era and Indianapolis era. Wonder how Indy fans feel about that???

No Harris or Bleier = no shot vs Oakland....that was our best team until the 2000's.
says a lot.
PS the steelers lost in the conf round in 76 too
They chose the wrong team for Philly.
It's either the Dick Vermeil team that lost to the Raiders in the 1981 Super Bowl, or the 2002 Eagles that went 12-4 and lost to Gruden's Tampa Bay in the NFC title game. I think the latter personally.
The 2001 Eagles, the team they chose, were young and McNabb was just starting out. The teams the following few years were better.

1976 Patriots beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh earlier in the year - and curb-stomped the Raiders 48-17 in Foxboro.
on a horrible callRight, then lost vs Oakland 2nd time around.
on a horrible call
one of the NFL's worst
Right, then lost vs Oakland 2nd time around. I'd venture to guess the same would've happened if they'd played Pittsburgh a second time, given how well the Steeler defense finished the year
