There are tons of Laker fans on here, who are more active in basketball discussion. You don't see any of them jumping down my throats for my comments. Gotta ask yourself why?

This is actually the first time I've really disagreed with you. Just wondering why you think my comments represent "every Lakers fan" as you did in post #11106?

They don't. I don't believe every Laker fan thinks the way you do, it was a joke directed towards you because I simply just didn't want to flat out put your name there.

It's the same reason why no other Laker fan has jumped at me because they can see it clearly as a joke. I'm not intending to rustle any jimmies but just poking fun. I poke more fun at Laker fans than most, but it's not with any sort of real hatred or blind homerism. I grew up and live in the Bay Area where Laker fans flooded Oracle Arena for years when the Warriors sucked. It was like basically a home game for them. You know how many of my friends to this day are still Laker fans? And you don't think they rubbed it in our faces every year they were great?

So stop trying to paint me as a Laker villain or something. It was CLEARLY a joke directed at you, which you then for some reason think I'm taking shots at a fan base.

What other Lakers fans? Its 3pm on the West Coast - they're all at work. It's literally just you and me right now!

Well when they're on, you can let me know what they think.

@LAD

Feel free to tag more if you want. But I feel like your inability to take a joke is really the issue here.

Not ruling it out...

One or the other.

But back on the topic at hand...

Do you think the average NBA fan would rather see another Warriors/cavs finals or at least one different team instead of them?

This is where I call bullshit on the whole "the same teams over and over" complaint.

Was it the same two every year during the 80s? No.

But it was the same four.

From 1980 through 1987, the East was won by either the Celtics or the 76ers.

The West was won by either the Lakers or Rockets.

Eight straight Finals and those were the only four teams in them.

So.... variety....?

Also the East/Western Finals were almost every bit as good as the Finals. Can't say that now.

Compared to

Warriors vs Cavs
Warriors vs Cavs
Warriors vs Cavs

Yes.

But all that needs to happen over the next 5 years is for one different team in each conference to make it and they match the 80s.

If we're talking about casual fans... then yes, absolutely.

The hardcore nba fans want their team and if they can't have they want variety... but ultimately if it comes down to Warriors Cavs they'll be in.

The casual nba fan and general sports fan would WAY rather watch the Cavs/Warriors then, say the Raptors or the Spurs or the Rockets.

Here's the difference between the NBA today, and the NBA lets say 30 years ago.

These last few seasons the top teams don't give a damn about playoff seeding. The don't care about winning every single game, even if it is in the regular season. There was a clear top team in the West who EVERYBODY knew was going to the finals and a clear top team in the East who EVERYBODY knew was going to the Finals. So why bother?

Can you imagine Larry Bird or Magic not giving a damn?

Why? Because nobody likes a good underdog story?

Hardcore fans want their team to win it all. Once that's over, they either generally don't give a fuck who goes to the finals, or they want to see the team they hate the least win it.

How many times can you eat steak for dinner every night before you want something slightly different on your plate?

Because casual fans aren't invested in the league enough to care about random teams. They need storylines, stars, something recognizable to keep them interested.

You do realise most NBA fans are casual fans, right? I'm not speaking on everyone's behalf but i'm willing to bet most fans out there wouldn't want to see a Warriors v Cavs finals for the 4th time in a row.

The things is, casual fans affect ratings way more than hardcore fans .

The hardcore fans are going to be watching either way. The casual nba fans, and sports fans that only tune into to big games and the Finals... their level of interest in the matchup is what affects the ratings.
