There for a minute, I was afraid the Rams were going to win.

Michael Badgley has settled in as the Lions kicker, and this outing against the Jaguars was perhaps his best outing. A perfect four-for-four, three of which came from beyond 40 yards, brought Badgley’s total with the Lions to 13-for-14

BB:72 and yet the Jags PK, Riley Patterson, who @Old Lion misses terribly so has missed 4/8 attempts this year at 45 yards or beyond
Austin Seibert will do that to you. He will make you miss a kicker who only makes half his kicks. Patterson was still better but not by much.

Neither Badgley nor Patterson should be considered reliable beyond 52 yards long term mind you, Imo.

Badgely at least is 50/50 though. You know there is a reasonable chance. With Seibert there was almost no chance.

Holmes still needs to look long term at one of these CFB PK who has a strong enough leg to attempt those FGA 55+ yards.

The kid from Missouri - I can't recall his name - might need to be investigated further

Also, the K-St. PK Zentner allegedly has a strong leg and was their Punter, Kick-off specialist and PK but all I witnessed was a FGM from 38

Congrats Lion fans.

Your team is exciting to watch. I keep an eye on the Lions as I always felt Goff got a bad rap from McVay, and wanted to see how he did with the Lions.

Your offense is looking scary with 2 legit RB’s, and solid OL and now with Williams healthy, could be a scary WR corp.

Defense is getting better, and looks to be a few players away from legit.

Do you guys want to draft a QB or one of the stud defensive players with your top 4 pick ( likely to be higher by end of season )?

Goff is amazingly naturally talented physically. Has the arm, the size, the accuracy, everything you could ask for. He must also be amazingly coachable. His release is text book, his steps and his footwork and just all of his mechanics are top notch. He hits guys in stride with great anticipation.

....as long as everything goes exactly how it's supposed to. If he has to think or make reads though, things go south real quick. If you get a pass rush on him you have a really good chance ce of getting the sack or getting the ball via int or fumble.

I dont watch enough to scout college guys anymore, but I would love Bryce Young as the pick. Would really dislike Stroud. I'm starting to think Jalen Carter might be even better than Will Anderson, and I would really rather end up with either one of those 2 guys. But at the same time, I think you have to take Young if you have the chance.

Chark looked good today at least from a health perspective. He certainly helped to draw extra coverage his way on several occasions.

I cannot wait to see when Jameson is 100% and having the two of them on the field at the same time. Maybe the last 3 or 4 games of the season it'll happen. Opponents are going to have an extremely tough time covering either one of those two with single coverage and if a safety is drawn into coverage for one of them that's going to make it easier for AR-SB.

Holmes will need to draft or sign another speedy wideout this off-season to help Goff out and all other receivers. Should that player be TCU WR Quentin Johnson? I'm usually not one who likes to see WR drafted in the first round, but it is a legitimate question - speedy WR are so much cheaper to come by in the draft than free agency.

Getting rid of Hockenson signals to me they want to be running even more 3 wide stuff. Team just looks better on O when Chark is out there. So yeah I'll agree that you would havebto consider a WR, whether that be Q Johnson or Addison or my choice would Njigba. I don't think it matters if you have 3 slot type guys in the league anymore, as long as they can ball. But I think it would have to be a situation of not only BPA, but they would have to be CLEAR BPA.

Maybe we could get Bryce Young with the Rams pick and come back with Smith-Njigba at our pick around 15-20ish. It would probably feel like a kick in the nuts, but it would set the team up to contend for 5-10 years.

This statement is highly likely true and even though AR-SB primarily plays in the slot as do many other similar WR, he does have the capability to be moved outside and still produce. It always comes to down to an OC view of matchups.

I was merely addressing Q-Johnson as he is allegedly 6'4 which is a physical type of WR that we won't have next year with Chark becoming a free agent. It's much less in cost to draft a WR than to sign most free agents.

I'd be fine with Addison or Njigba-Smith - and I don't care all that much about Njigba-Smith missing time in 2022 unless his hamstring is going to be a reoccurring issue down the road.

I think this topic is quite debatable. Probable tier1 WR in today's free agency are almost nearly as costly as say Tier1 DE.

My belief is that incoming WR draft prospects find it somewhat easier to acclimate to the NFL than say an Edge rusher, TE, LB and most assuredly a CB.

It's kind of a double edge sword.

I respectfully have to disagree on some of your statements.

Size he has.

Accuracy has been an ongoing issue even in yesterday's game and specifically on deep thrown balls. Yesterday Goff was aided by some very good receptions by his receiving corps where the ball was inaccurately thrown. No NFL QB will be 100% accurate in placement of a thrown ball.

He does have a good release, at times, especially when he has a clean pocket, however he continues to drop back too deep when in shotgun formation and I believe his lack of arm strength shows well when in this predicament.

He doesn't hit guys in stride with great anticipation as much as you are portraying. He does have games where he can excel but he still lacks throwing a receiver open often enough that that alone leaves me suspect if he can play like he did yesterday without a relatively clean pocket. Goff's mechanics go awry when under duress and yesterday he rarely was in that position.

Bottom line with Goff at the helm is that the Lions can win games with him as the QB, but will he be able to perform well enough to primarily be the one responsible for winning a game under adversity in the last few minutes of said game.

I'm not so sure he can without having pretty much every aspect of the game being in his favor - i.e., all starting offensive players being healthy.

I meant more accuracy to put the ball where he wants it. What he lacks is the awareness of where to put the ball.

I was maybe overstating a bit, but imo a QB in the NFL is 50% physical talent and 50% mental talent.

Tom Brady is like 47/50 in both.
Peyton Manning was early in his career probably similar, but by the end he was like 40/50 physical and 55/50 mental.
Brett Favre was like 50 physical and 40 mental.
Goff is like 45/50+ physically you really can't find guys much better designed for the QB position. It's why he was a #1 overall pick. But he's like 25/50 mentally, and that's what stops him from success.

Agreed. He can win regular season games for you. With the right team he can even win more games than he loses. I'm not sure he can ever overcome adversity though. And I would hate finally having a team that can compete but knowing we're going to lose if they going gets tough.

When I was a young High School football player going into my senior season I got invited to U of M's camp. I was barely a Div 1 guy, definitely not Michigan/Big 10 type talent, but I went anyway. One of the guys who gave the most memorable speech at camp was Charles Woodson. He talked about how just like most of the people there he was always the most talented guy in his high school. Fastest guy on the team. And in one of his younger high school seasons he was running sprints that their coach made him do, but not going his hardest because he didn't need to. He got beat on a single sprint one day as a sophomore or w/e in high school. And it pissed him off. He knew he didn't get beat. He let that other guy win. He talked about from the first day he came to Michigan he made sure he never lost a single sprint. And he grew to make sure he never lost a single drill. He said "now" he makes sure he never lets anyone put in more effort than him in any drill or any sprint. He not only has to win, he has to be trying harder than everyone too. That year he won the Heisman. Now he's in the HoF.

Goff strikes me as a guy who loses sprints and doesn't really care.

I wouldn't place that specific label on Goff, however I think he has lost confidence in his abilities, limited or otherwise, during those last couple of years with McVay and I surely won't place all the blame on McVay, but let's face it, QB's, WR's and CBs mostly are diva and fickle personality driven.

Few players at the QB position can thrive positively under duress and to be honest, they have less than 3 seconds the majority of the time to make a proper positive decision.

The Lions finally have their starting wide receiver group healthy, and boy did it show. As Jeremy Reisman noted, Goff was “19-of-22, 231 yards, 2 TDs, 140.7 passer rating” when targeting this trio.

I want Carter, I can wait until later in the draft to pick up a QB, none coming out are worth a top 5 pick IMHO, though Young will probably go top 3 (looking at you Houston).
