That seems about right. Thats the biggest problem for the B10 IMO, its not the OOC games its the bowl season. To be frank the B10 needs better tie ins because in about 75% of their bowls over the last 15 years B10 teams have been playing "up". ie their 6th place team playing another leagues 4th place team, their 5th place teams playing another leagues 3rd place team etc and when the B10 almost always gets 2 BCS bids ( even in years they dont deserve it like Illinois to the Rose in 07) it makes those games even tougher because it bumps everyone up a spot and you end up with 6-6 Iowa playing 9-3 Texas or 7-5 Iowa playing 10-2 Missouri/Oklahoma. Add to that that the B10's major bowl tie in ( the new years day games) are almost all with the SEC which is without question the best confernce and it makes having a good bowl season tough. In any event the league needs to start winning games even if they arent favored in them.

Oh didn't you know? It doesn't matter. The mismatched B1G team should always be able to beat the higher ranked, higher seeded team, and since we can't it's clearly only an indication that the conference as a whole is bad. I mean, if your conference's #8 team can't beat another conference's #4 team, and your #6 can't beat their #3, clearly your conference is entirely shit, right?

Berkeley = stale troll from the ESPN days. Absolutely nothing he says is to be taken serious.

It is both things.

1. Ohio State is very good.
They are a title worthy team if judged in a vacuum.

2. The Big 10 is perceived as being weak over the years.
Ohio State will never be able to shake off their conference mates perception of weakness.

I hate conference homers and the whole conference thing that ESPN helped create.

But, it does seem to influence some perceptions of college football when it comes to the SEC (unfairly positive) or Big 10 (unfairly negative).

Thankfully, it is far less impactful (positive or negative) on the other leagues.

I hate the idea of a PLAYOFF.
But, at least the playoffs will eliminate a great deal of the conference crap.

Honestly OSU is the primary reason the conference has become to be perceived as weak IMO with their 2 "blowout" losses in their last 2 title games. Its not fair but it is what it is. Up until about 7 years ago the B10 and the SEC were basically contending with each other every year for the claim to the "best conference" in CFB. Those 2 losses hurt the leagues perception more than anything. Add to that that ESPN is a bunch of SEC nuthuggers because of their TV situation and it makes it tough for any B10 team to get respect. Even in 09 when the league did well in bowls and won both their BCS bowls the conference was still "down" according to the experts. Nothing the league can do except hope its teams start winning some bowl games.

Oh that is bullshit. We are tied for most BCS wins in the entire nation. The only embarrassing loss was the UF one. LSU was a fully healthy, extremely experienced team while we had just replaced nearly every offensive weapon on our offense. Hell that game would've been much closer if we hadn't continuously fucked ourselves with personal fouls and a huge dropped TD pass from Robiskie.

I'd blame it much more on Wisconsin and their 3 straight RB losses and the continued losses by our teams in our NYD matchups with the SEC. In case you forgot, OSU is 2-0 in their last 2 BCS games.

This is where it all started and TEAM SEC.

Nothing the B1G can do now, it will NEVER live up to the SEC.

I said it wasnt true man. But you and I both know that thats when the whole " B10 is weak" argument started. Losing the last 3 Rose Bowls certainly doesnt help but the birth of the whole sentiment came on the heels of your guys losses to Flrida and LSU.

And we had no business being in the 2007 national title game... We were like #5 going into the final weekend when every team decided to shit the bed...

You did place the blame on us, and if Wisky could've won 1 or 2 of those RBs and if some of the other teams would pull their share of the weight in the Cap One/Gator/Outback Bowls, we wouldn't have this perception.

100% agree. I was still at OSU during that game and pretty much the same sentiment was held. We were thrilled to be there but given our weaknesses that year, it was a pretty common opinion even among my OSU fan friends.

Yeah I mean I'm not saying I wasn't happy to have a shot... But we were far from an elite team that year... I blame WVU and USC...

Maybe youre right but I dont know. In 09 you guys and Iowa both won their BCS games and the conference still "sucked". BCS title games stick in peoples minds more than any other BCS/other bowl games and by ALOT.

...But literally no one outside of the SEC has won a national title in almost a decade

I'm not sure why the B1G takes the heat for it...

2000 Outback South Carolina L
2001 Outback South Carolina L
2002 BCS NCG the U WIN
2003 BCS Fiesta Kansas State Win
2004 Alamo OK State Win
2005 BCS Fiesta Notre Dame Win
2006 BCS NCG Florida ass raped
2007 BCS NCG LSU Loss

2008 BCS Fiesta Texas Loss (so wanted boom to take a knee at the 1 yd line, all Buckeyes needed was a FG, but hey lets give Colt another shot to win and play just marvelous pass defense)
2009 BCS Rose Oregon WIN
2010 BCS Sugar Arkansas Win
2011 Gator Florida Loss

Buckeyes are 6-6 which isn't all that bad considering who they played, the back to back BCS wins were huge to end the catastrophic streak they was on.

Just take an easy bowl against the worst SEC team to get the 0 - 11 monkey off your back. <Sorry, we're not eligible this year!>

In 09 the B1G had an excellent reputation. 2 BCS wins and 4 teams in the final top 16. I can remember the ESPN boards, there were a lot of haters that ate crow. Penn State also beat a higher ranked LSU team and Wisconsin beat a higher ranked Miami team. We ended the season with bowl wins over 4 teams that finished the season ranked 19 or better.

The 2007 should not carry as much negative perception.
They never really should have been in that game and most Buckeye fans feel the same way.

As for 2006:

I think Michigan running their collective mouths after 2006 hurt worse than Ohio State losing.
The damage done by losing in 2006 would have been contained had Michigan not made it worse.
It was a double whammy that started the whole disrespect for the Big 10 thing.
Michigan probably should have waited until they actually beat USC before they made such a big stink.

Although in fairness, probably every other program would have spouted off as well.
Michigan unfortunately got annihilated by USC.

It has been nearly 10 years, and 2006 is still haunting the Big 10's reputation.

:agree:

Nailed it. Only thing that's going to change the conference image is a strong bowl showing.

Florida State ran through a very weak ACC in the 90s and early 2000s and never got as much grief as Ohio State does now.....
