I agree. Still can't understand how quality TEs have disappeared in the NE offense.

As you mentioned many factors play into it. Losing Scar and Ernie leaving also hurt quite a bit. Many on here don't talk about that.
They were available. Were they all that good?

I’m still in the camp that the “weapons” the Pats acquired over the past 3-4 years were good enough for a bridge to the rebuild. Fans, media, everyone is telling is how lack of talent the Pats are. I still believe they picked up some good weapons, now in shambles, and did not use them properly… coaching?
I'm "still in the camp" that there is enough blame to go around - all around! Why do we hope to pin it all on one position?

Mac and Josh lead us all to believe that he was the next 'franchise' quarterback in New England with his first positive season.

Year two we blamed on Matt Patricia and a leaky offensive line.

Year three has been a complete debacle on the OL and as result, Mac has suffered 'brain damage.'

Year #1 AND #3 are both Josh McDaniel offenses. Year 3 has required BOB to dumb it down because Mac can't read a defense and the WRs cannot get separation.

Here we are starting to find excuses why Mac has failed so miserably. Other than Jacobi Myers, are the WRs any worse than the past two years? Tight Ends? How different is the OL in 2023 from 2021? Has there been an exodus of All-Pro OL?

Or have the players themselves just become worse?

Some wereover-rated, some regressed. Most have folded under pressure from an under-performing team.

Example:

Hunter Henry used to slip out into space to catch a lot of balls - now he is the hot read.

Food for thought.

Wow! What a great article. Definitely food for thought. No one has brought up the idea that Belichick might need to be replaced this offseason. That reporter is on top of his game!

Oh… I’m definitely thinking about that now!

I concur

He’s done nothing but gotten worse as a coach. Coach B was known for getting rid of players before their decline in play. Didn’t matter who it was. The Krafts need to do the same thing. But who would trade for a coach who is the highest paid coach in sports. Is old. Who is a power monger. I don’t think many teams would trade for him. If so, we won’t receive a high draft pick.

I agree even though he is the GOAT coach IMO. He has proven he can't rebuild a team or draft offensive skill players. So any team in contention to compete for the SB over the next few years likely already have a good coach. So as you mentioned who wants him? A bottom feeder for maybe 3 years? Depends on the owner wanting to roll the dice. No one knows what's in BBs contract so I won't speculate.

Then comes the $1000 question who do the Krafts replace him with? I guess one way of looking at is BB can't coach forever. So may as well move on now.

If NE can get a pick or picks for him that would be a bonus. Again none of us know what his contract stipulates?

Jerrod Mayo. For at least three years.

Get this...................His DC will be Steve Belichick. He and Mayo are the ones behind the great attitudes of the defense. According to Matt Judon, both are constantly telling the defense to "have some fun and enjoy what you do". Apparently, SB and JM spend more than 60 hours a week together working on defensive schemes. BB has pretty much left them alone because whatever they're doing is working.

Another note. Coaches have started to leave the Patriots.

You make it sound like Ross leaving is a bad thing.

I'm thinking it may be a good thing.

Maybe this is Bill letting him walk with pride.

Now lets get an actual WR coach.

Does anyone here think there is any trade value for BB? I don't!

I think Kraft will let him walk if he doesn't ask or demand his 2024 salary.

That way, they both save face. BB gets a huge salary from his new employer without being forced to give up any draft picks and kraft looks like a good guy for not making a mess out of a very uncomfortable situation. Win-Win.

Payton wasn't carrying a $25M salary on his back.

If BB doesn't want to give that up, Kraft can move him to VP of Football Operations and give him nothing to do for a year.

They can both be jerks about it.
