Imo 'Prime Koufax' is something you say in baseball thats somewhere around 'Prime Shaq' in basketball. It carries some real weight but I think think Koufax's career is outside the top 25.

Bob Gibson and Koufax are frick and Frack, kosher and Jazz. Take a snap shot of their brilliance at their best and they were as good as anybody. To me when I consider Greg Maddux was as good as either at his peak AND he has the second most wins since WWII AND he only spent 15 days total on the DL in his 23 year career, there is no comparison big picture wise.

An amazing factoid.
Maddux spent a grand total of 15 days on the DL in his 23 year career, and only because 15 is the minimum allowed. Tom Glavine was 42 years old before he ever spent a day on The DL.
There has never been the slightest hint either used PEDs.

Take Maddux and Glavine and throw in a Detroit boy brought up in the Tigers system (John Smoltz) and it is no wonder that the Braves were that good during their rein!!

I have Maddux in my top 25 and Gibson and Koufax just short so I tend to agree in terms of career. In terms of prime...its probably splitting hairs but Im still taking Maddux 3rd.

Where did you hear that? I've never read or heard anything about TB because it's largely been replaced by the superior slugging percentage. Not to mention, we already know that OBP is more important to scoring runs than SLG by a 1.8/1 ratio, and we also know that SLG does not assign weights to hits perfectly. For example, a home run is not 4 times more valuable than a single; thus, the need for a statistic like wOBA that measures each hit according to how many runs score on average based off that hit.

I don't know precisely where I'd rate total bases, but very high for sure.
It's the ultimate isolated measure of a player's career offensive contribution.
Baseball offense is 100% about moving from 1st to 2nd to 3rd to home base.
When a player has 1 total base, he's advanced toward the ultimate goal by a mathematical percentage.
Hank Aaron has an amazing 17% more total bases than any other player who ever played MLB.

I had the pleasure of seeing Koufax and Gibson in their prime ... in my humble opinion they were the most dominate ... the only one I might put in their category is Kershaw. Being a Tiger fan, thank God they were in the National League.

How The Braves only won the single WS will always confound me.
They have the #1 AND #2 rated pitching staffs of all time in 1993 and 1998, it's still mind blowing.

You take all of his total bases from his last 3 seasons and he would still have a sizable lead, though.

The single most impressive stat in MLB history is Aaron's career total bases margin over the next best total.

I don't know if he's "overrated" or not, but considering he pitched 11 seasons, and in 5 of them never reached a 2 win season, he doesn't belong in a top 25 list based on career alone.

Now, if you want to make a list based on ability or talent, then sure he belongs, along with Bo Jackson, Joe Jackson, etc.
Comparing Bo Jackson to Koufax LMAO...maybe if Bo had won several MVP awards. Hell, maybe if Bo had even been a STARTER. BEST means most dominant. An actual comparison that makes sense would be Barry Sanders. Retiring early doesn't diminish greatness. By your standards, Pete Rose was better than Barry Bonds

The kicker with Bonds is he would have easily made The HOF without the PEDs, but he wouldn't have been the HR record holder, or had the most RBIs, etc.
He stole a lot from greats like Aaron and Ken Griffey Jr, who should be looked at as the best power hitter since Aaron.
Barry and Clemens made their choices and they should never be in The HOF in my opinion.

You compared Koufax to Bo Jackson...the worst part for you is you really don't realize how stupid you are. Just keep babbling like you have the first clue of what you are talking about Junior

I didn't say Bo Jackson was nearly as good a player as Koufax was, I said he had as much raw talent as him. You're the one who wants to call Koufax one of the greatest pitchers ever LOL.

The worst part is you have no clue how clueless you are. Do you know what xFIP- is by any chance?

Koufax was as good a power pitcher as ever scratched his sack in public for about 5 years.
Bo really did have amazing raw talent, but he never had the opportunity to refine it.
How is any of this controversial ?

There's conflicting reports on how hard Koufax threw. And what do you mean by "controversial"? UK Cowboy is just being his retarded, normal self. A clueless idiot from Texas
