Then our opinions differ, because watching the replay he was running where he was suppose to approaching the bag ... I feel the ump made a bad call thinking the runner interfered with the throw because it was such a bad throw that actually hit runner....

He was inside the baseline the entire way to first base.

My understanding is that it doesn’t matter if it was intentional or not and that it doesn’t matter if it’s a bad throw or good throw.

Dude, they do this all the time, go watch every runner running to first, this is not unusual, the ump wouldn’t have called a thing had the throw been good, it would have been a normal play ... It looked like interference which is why he made the call, but it wasn’t...Like another poster said, if it was a throw to 1st from the catcher, sure then you have a case ....

Because the play isn’t interfered with often. It’s a bad rule and bad design to not have the double bag.

2430 games this year.

approx 22k innings.

approx 130k outs.

but you found ONE instance of this getting called.

I agree that it was probably called accurately based on the rule. But it is a rule that is NEVER called. Similar to not giving a batter 1st base on a HBP because he didn’t make an effort to avoid the pitch.

My point (and I suspect most others’ as well) is that you can’t make a call in the World Series that is not called in the regular season.

A throw from the catcher I could see having a case... But a good throw he’s toast anyway and we’re not even discussing it

It's not called because it rarely happens.

If anything, I'm impressed that they called it correctly in that situation, for that reason. Shows how well the umpires know the rules.

Had the ball been thrown accurate to first he doesn’t make this call, the bad throw forced his hand because it appeared he interfered with the catch, so I think personally it’s a horrible call... Will be interesting to see how it’s discussed from the experts...

If it would’ve been a good throw it wouldn’t have been interference because the runner wouldn’t have been in the way. So, you’re correct that he wouldn’t have called anything had it been a good throw.

You don’t think he could’ve caught the throw if the runner wasn’t there?
