looks like Heaney had a solid outing. 2 innings with 5k’s. That’s encouraging!

The pitching is definitely ahead of the hitting out in Arizona. The game ends in a scoreless tie. Each team had 3 hits.

Listening to Jared Sandler before the game today. He thinks Marc Church has a good chance to make the team coming out of spring training.

From Evan Grant:

On Sunday, Pillow Season arrived when Cody Bellinger agreed to a three-year deal worth $80 million with the Chicago Cubs, according to master of transactions Jeff Passan. The deal includes player opt-outs after each of the first two years. It’s essentially a series of three one-year contracts for Bellinger. Unless, that is, something better comes along for him. It gives the improving Cubs another year of Bellinger in the middle of their lineup and potentially frees them up if he follows suit with another big season because he’ll opt for free agency all over again.

It’s also reason for the Rangers to have at least one more conversation about and with Montgomery. Speaking of, did we mention both Montgomery and Bellinger are represented by the Pillow Guy and, no, we don’t mean Mike Lindell?

It creates all kinds of opportunities for all parties involved.

Start with Rangers owner Ray Davis. Because it must start with him. With the Rangers payroll at an all-time high of $243 million, he’s the only one who can determine if the team will take on another dollar of salary. Every dollar from here on out actually costs $1.30 because of competitive balance tax (CBT); if the payroll pushes above $257 million, every dollar above it costs $1.42.

The regional sports network (RSN) mess has been a source of financial concern for going on two years now, probably longer for Davis. But, in the short term, the Rangers should — should get close to 90% of what they were originally due from Diamond Sports. Doesn’t solve the issue of 2025 and beyond. All very real. And very significant.

From Evan Grant:

Major League Baseball has finalized the schedule for the events around the mid-July All-Star Game at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers.

While the majority of the events during the five-day celebration of baseball around the game will take place at or adjacent to Globe Life Field, the televised first night of the MLB amateur draft will get a little more Texas-ification. It will be held in the heart of the Fort Worth Stockyards at Cowtown Coliseum on Sunday, July 14.
