If the Rangers need a minor league pitcher to bring up to start a game in May, I think Dane Acker may be the surprising choice.

Not including Langford on the Breakout roster tells me the Rangers know he makes the roster this year.

I asked Newberg which starting pitcher in our system is closest to the big leagues, who also hasn't been a disappointment in the last year. I was thinking Acker. He said, Josh Stephan.

From Evan Grant:

Another possibility the Rangers could pursue to add pitching depth is to tread on their success. There are lots of veterans in camps on minor league contracts with “outs” that would allow them to take free agency a week or so before the season begins if they are not added to the major league roster. If you are one of those veterans and you are basically looking to extend your career, the Rangers are the defending world champs with a really good lineup. Even if you had to go to Triple-A for a month or so, the opportunity to pitch for a team with a real shot at winning would seem like a potential tiebreaker over clubs whose chances aren’t as dim.

Still can’t forget what Wandy Rodriguez did for the Rangers in 2015, signing as a minor league free agent on opening day and jumping into the rotation shortly thereafter. He bailed that rotation out in the first half. That might be all the Rangers need to get them through until Max Scherzer, Tyler Mahle and Jacob deGrom start to return. I expect the Rangers are scouting other camps intently looking at veteran non-roster guys.

Still would like to have him at some reasonable price. Maybe someone could do a sign and trade with us. More pitching would be great and it allows us to possibly load up the BP in the 2nd half much like what we did in the playoffs.

I wonder if we would have to trade away some salary in order to afford him.

Maybe so or come up with an imaginative way to defer some salary until huge contracts like Scherzer's come off the books.

The radio guys thought the one run Urena gave up should have been unearned.
If you look at his individual pitching lines he will have a really good game followed by an absolutely horrendous one. Really inconsistent.

Acker has a chance to be the long guy. But kind of hope they let him stretch out. To me they are letting White pitch multiple innings so he is first msn up
