They are not going to spend any significant amount of money on any area. It will possibly be another bullpen or SP piece that is along the lines of the Milb signings they have already made for depth.

They don’t want to pay the luxury tax and they were never in on Ohtani, Hader or Montgomery. CY was basically blowing smoke. He was never going to come out and say definitively that they won’t be paying any big contracts this year and disappoint fans or let other teams know.

They’re going to roll with whatever they have internally and hope it works out. The offense will be fine with the additions of Foscue and Langford. The bullpen will suck again and depth at SP will be a problem in the first half of the season if anyone gets hurt.

They didn’t do anything to address the last decade’s glaring problems in the bullpen per their usual organizational mindset.
I 100% agree. They are done spending.

Yes it is true we were close to not qualifying but it is also true we were close to winning 2011

I think one could easily argue the 2011 was more deserving.

However I still stand that last years team WS built for the postseason

The KC model is not necessarily the perfect model

Reality is there are limited resources ans last years for it done without an elite pen
Yes, the 2011 team deserved a better manager and better managerial decisions.

I feel like there is zero chance for Montgomery, at this stage which is a shame because they certainly need him for the first half and he was a big part of their WS successful run last year. If they had plans of signing him they would have done so before now. I see him signing with another team later next week. He like Hader won't wait around.

My take is they sign Montgomery. We shall see what happens. Regardless. They have several going on the 60 day IL. So roster spots must be filled

Actually it did never to be forgotten.
Wonder if AZ never to be forgotten is to have Seward give that fat pitch to Corey
And then lightning struck twice

At this point CY should just come out and say we’re done spending. I don’t want to hear anything about money. They made plenty off the World Series.

We were the better team. If Scherzer had been healthy we might have swept them.

The Rangers can always get creative to gain some spending money. As I mentioned in the first post on the thread they could trade away some veterans. They would have to also trade for a young starter if they traded away a veteran starter. They could even save by trading Lowe and go with a rookie at 1B. They would have to really need that extra money to do that though, and they would have to feel very good about a couple different guys to compete for 1B.

I really doubt they would go in that direction though. They would have to be desperate to spend the sum of money they would save in doing so.

you know we could trade Lowe, Garcia, Heaney, Gray etc and get something. might kill us competing for 2 or 3 or more years but

5) Wyatt Langford, Rangers: 121 wRC+, 16 HR and 10 SB in 97 G
The best rookie hitter in the 2024 projections isn't Lee (116 wRC+), or Jackson Holliday (108) or Evan Carter (108). It's a different Ranger, who was drafted just last year and hasn't yet made his MLB debut. Langford, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 Draft out of the University of Florida, has been invited to Spring Training and has a real chance to make the Rangers' Opening Day roster. There's a lot of hype around the slugging outfielder, who's ranked MLB's No. 13 overall prospect, and the projections see Langford as an impact player immediately at the big league level. After what Carter did in the postseason for the World Series champs, it's scary that Texas has another rising star in the pipeline who could be just as good.

I think that is understating what Langford can do this year.

The Twitterverse is full of folks defending CY for not spending heavily on a closer.

It is looking like the Rangers did just that last summer though, in a round about way, that is. The cost of the free agent that is acquired to take Cole Ragans' place in the rotation over the next 5 years or so is the cost of acquiring Aroldis Chapman for a half season.

It is always better to fix your bullpen in the offseason.
