Yes we can definitely use a closer or at least a late inning piece. The Twitterverse is full of folks defending CY for not spending heavily on a closer.
It is looking like the Rangers did just that last summer though, in a round about way, that is. The cost of the free agent that is acquired to take Cole Ragans' place in the rotation over the next 5 years or so is the cost of acquiring Aroldis Chapman for a half season.
It is always better to fix your bullpen in the offseason.
The folks I was referring to are against spending heavily on a closer at any time, not just this year. Of course, had we spent on one, most of them would say it was great that we did.Yes we can definitely use a closer or at least a late inning piece.
Nir saying anyone gets a free pass but the money is evidently issue at this point
with the aggressive manner that CY and the owners showed during the previous off-seasons when pursing free agents, it is patently obvious that money is the only issue this off-seasonYes we can definitely use a closer or at least a late inning piece.

Yes, it was always going to be different this year. That's why it was crazy to think the Rangers were going to re-sign Montgomery, Garver, and 5 good to great relief pitchers.money is evidently issue at this point
yep it was crazy on me to have said that at the beginning of the off-season. didn't mean i thought they would do all of it, just that it was needed and that was before we knew how cash-strapped the Rangers are.Yes, it was always going to be different this year. They did need to sign another closer-type though,. That was a bare necessity.
Cy and the Rangers have been pretty closed mouthed about it. guess we'll hear whenthey happenYou would think, if the Rangers have finished spending that they would begin to work on a trade or two.
I tried to tell you they were going to be leary of going past the luxury tax threshold.yep it was crazy on me to have said that at the beginning of the off-season. didn't mean i thought they would do all of it, just that it was needed and that was before we knew how cash-strapped the Rangers are.
you did and even then, i thought, just like now, that they were set up to go beyond it without major distress. it has become apparent that them being screwed by Diamond/Bally has had a major impact on their 2024 plans to the point of them being unable to do much of anything free agent wiseI tried to tell you they were going to be leary of going past the luxury tax threshold.
The TV revenue has been a question going back into part of last season. Some thought Bally would bail out of Rangers broadcasts during the 2023 regular season. Nothing new on that front.
it might take a package around Taveras to get anything decent.I still like our team as it is. The guys in the minors are going to have to step up to serve as depth for both the rotation and the bullpen.
I still wouldn't mind trading Taveras for pitching and signing Jankowski.
You tend to get a lot of what I think and say very twisted and wrong. I don't know how you continue to manage that.it might take a package around Taveras to get anything decent.
didn't think you like Jankowski
