Video scouting report »
Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 55 | Run: 55 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 55
Santana fits the mold of a five-tool player. If the 16-year-old from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic had been playing against premier American high school talents, the belief is that he would line up well with the elite of the class. Scouts laud his baseball acumen and aptitude for the game, as well as his mature approach and the fact that he is fully bilingual. Santana has received Julio Rodríguez comps both on and off the field and trains with Charlie Nova in Santo Domingo.
Known as a natural hitter with plus-power potential, the right-handed-hitting Santana has a strong feel for the strike zone. Evaluators are impressed by his ability to recall pitches and adjust, as he shines brightest during in-game action. His 6-foot-2 frame produces fast-twitch reactions that have many believing he could consistently hit for both average and extra bases as he matures.
Santana’s plus speed on the basepaths and in the field gives him the chance to play center field and stick there as he climbs through a farm system. Praised for his physical attributes and approach in a similar vein to Ethan Salas, who climbed to Double-A in his first pro season, Santana could be a quick mover through the ranks.

Paulino Santana and Curley Martha are both rated overall by MLB.com witha 55 rating. Our only position player prospects with a higher rating than that is Langdord and Carter.

Sebastian Walcott is rated the same as newly signed Paulino Sanchez and Curley Martha. All three of those guys has an overall 55 rating.

Yolfran Castillo Has an overall rating of 50. That puts him in the vicinity of Justin Foscue and Anthony Gutierrez who are also rated as 50.

I guess that means we have three new guys who will be in the top 10. Santana could surpass Walcott.

Duarte walks a lot of guys, a whole lot. I hope we didn't give anything of value for him.

He had been DFAed so most likely we gave next to nothing for him.

"Former Ranger prospects were included in the bottom quarter of the list. Luisangel Acuna, sent to the New York Mets in the Max Scherzer trade, is #77, while Thomas Saggese and TK Roby, who went to St. Louis in the Jordan Montgomery trade, are at #83 and #93, respectively." - Adam Morris
