Chapman still out there lol
Don't count that out. We seem to be going the chesp route again in the pen. I guess it takes missing the postseason to convince CY that JD was wrong about the pen.Chapman still out there lol
When the team mistakenly refuses to go after Hader, a guy like Hicks should be considered. There are other guys on his level, but you can't let them keep signing elsewhere. We have 2 spots open methinks
One for Montgomery and one for a high leverage reliever. I like Robert S or the Astros guy over Hicks. He seemed wild to me. But if he can be a SP and SFG can get innings they for a bargain
Hicks contract seemed reasonable. When the team mistakenly refuses to go after Hader, a guy like Hicks should be considered. There are other guys on his level, but you can't let them keep signing elsewhere.
i give the Rangers less than 5% chance of signing him. it would cost around $8.5M for 2024. he turned down that much from the Astros after his contract was vested following the 2023 season. he has to expect at least that much
Hader is 5 years younger and has been used exclusively as a closer for years now but of course will cost more. Tough call between the two but I would lean towards throwing my eggs in the Hader basket.
I would too. Of course, like his predecessor, CY likes to do a bullpen on the cheap and hope for the best. To me, spending money on a great closer is a very wise investment.Hader is 5 years younger and has been used exclusively as a closer for years now but of course will cost more. I actually think Gray would be great in the pen. I stated at the end of the season that he could be a good closer.I still say our greatest need is in the bullpen and not the starting rotation. The only reason I would sign Montgomery is if the Rangers wanted to make a corresponding move and trade Heaney or Gray for bullpen help.
Even at that, I would rather sign Hader and package one of Heaney or Gray (with a lot of cash), and Taveras along with Bratt and another minor leaguers or two for Luzardo. If they want Lowe included, that would not be a deal breaker either, If they added to what was coming back to us.
Bottom line is our greatest need is a proven closer.
He would most likely be the third starting pitcher to be considered to leave the rotation and be put in the pen, based on how Bochy handled that last year. I would imagine Heaney and Bradford would be the first two in line.I actually think Gray would be great in the pen. I stated at the end of the season that he could be a good closer.
31 days, nowPitchers and Catchers report in 49 days.
They could go:Would not be surprised if we use the same playbook as last year with Heaney and Gray in the pen come playoffs
Gray was Eovaldi-like out of the pen. Just unhittable. He would most likely be the third starting pitcher to be considered to leave the rotation and be put in the pen, based on how Bochy handled that last year. I would imagine Heaney and Bradford would be the first two in line.
