From Jeff Wilson:

The Rangers signed a left-hander Monday. Two of them, actually.

Neither is named Jordan Montgomery, but baseball fans have heard of both. One of them has a solid chance of making the Opening Day roster.

That would be Danny Duffy, who spent last season with the Rangers rehabbing from a lingering injury. He said throughout that season that he felt better than he had in multiple seasons. He threw live batting practice to Rangers hitters during the postseason.

General manager Chris Young, a former Duffy teammate, and special assistant Dayton Moore, their boss with the Royals, love the guy.

The other lefty is Chasen Shreve, who was with pitching coach Mike Maddux in 2018 in St. Louis. Shreve has pitched in the majors in every season since 2014 and has been serviceable against left-handed hitters and righty hitters.

What separates him from Duffy is that Duffy is a former starter, a good one, and would be able to handle multi-inning stints. The Rangers have a need for that. Shoot, they have a need for a starter if Duffy is up for it.

On the one hand, you have to think the only reason Montgomery hasn't signed is because the Rangers have a verbal agreement with him, but it won't become official until after the Bally mess is more settled.

On the other hand, Blake Snell hasn't signed either, so maybe it is more of a Boras thing and has nothing to do with the Rangers and Bally.

the longer monTy goes unsigned, the better it is for us. The Bally stuff looks like it should be settled soon.

I think it’s a Boras thing. He’s a sick f*ck who likes to squeeze every last penny out so he can say he’s the best agent who ever lived and stroke his own ego.
Once one signs it will set the price for the other. They’ll probably both be signed within no more than 3 days of each other.

Kershaw goes back to the Dodgers. That's good.

Anyone want the Rangers to sign Cueto to a minor league deal?

Surprised that him and Bellinger are still out there.

Agreed. Makes me think of how we would still be talking about Hamilton's had that ended differently.
Hambone HR would have been legendary
