Snow and Weight fired from Isles

Lou Lamoriello will assume the responsibilities of General Manager and begin the process to find a new Head Coach.

Maybe AV moves from Broadway to Long Island?

I hope Lou goes with a journeyman retread like Ron Wilson, Mario Tremblay or Tom Reney.

I don't think any GM in Leafs history will be forgotten as quickly as Lou.

There was some good – I think getting Andersen was a good move and they didn’t give up much to do so. Dumping Phaneuf on the Snes was comical. But then using that saved money on Marleau and the inexplicable Zaitsev contract pretty much negated any benefit. Other than Andy though, none of this really made a long-term impact on the team.

He and Hunter also made for a pretty shitty scouting/drafting team. Other than Liljegren (and Matthews, obviously) the only guys they took that seem like they might make a dent in the NHL are Grundstrom and Rasanen. That’s pretty bad considering the Leafs had 7 picks in the first 3 rounds of his drafts (not to mention the two second round picks he traded away for 4th line centres at the deadline who didn’t do anything).

I suppose the nicest thing I can say is he didn’t torpedo the process. If that’s what the outcome is with the Islanders maybe they’ll be alright.

So this Chris Johnston fella figures that Trotz wouldn't even try to defend a cup title??
Ok then!!

fwiw ferraro was in the cesspool and said its more likely trotz will leave than stay :noidea:

Too much water under the bridge on the contract thing. Bizarre that 2 assistant coaches got contract extensions and trotz and lane lambert didnt

One of the assistants that got an extension, Todd Rierden could end up being trotz replacement allledgedly :noidea:

Don't know that it's so bizarre. HC's always by default have the most pressure and assistants can be pried away by other teams so why not make it tougher for them to leave if you think they might be good successors?

If it hurts Trotz that much then he should go but he's been around long enough to know this is a business and he's not going to be given a 15 year leash like he was in Nashville anywhere else.
