I would trade Monahan + Brodie for Tavares. It likely isn't enough, though.
I dunno. Gives them two good pieces in key positions with cost and contract certainty for a while.

I think Tavares is set on testing free agency though, which means Calgary can (and probably will) get burned by Tavares walking in July.

Man, what a kick in the junk to the Isles with the new arena on the way if they were to lose Tavares. Part of me hope that they get a deal done, the other part of me would be excited to see the teams lining up if JT were to hit the market.

With Stastny's contract expiring, how much sense does JT make in STL?

That would be one weaponized top 6.

for 40 games of Tavares? :noidea:

The assumption is that BT would have a firm handshake agreement that JT would be re-signing with the Flames - However, it's just a fantasy as JT will either sign a new contract with the Isles or will hit the market.

/My money is on him re-signing with the Isles

It's Bruce Garrioch, so you know...

There’s talk the New York Islanders are getting more and more nervous about the future of captain John Tavares, who has a cap hit of $5.5 million in the final year of his contract. There is talk Tavares’ camp isn’t keen on talking about a deal during the season, which doesn’t help if the Isles are listening to trade offers. They went into Saturday’s game against the New Jersey Devils only two points out of the final wildcard spot in the East, so Tavares isn’t going anywhere if they stay close. This will be an interesting situation to until the end of February … San Jose Sharks general manager Doug Wilson has been calling looking for a forward.

Garrioch Sunday: No shortage of NHL trade talk

When did Tavares spoil with the Isles? All I've ever heard is how loyal he is to them.

All of a sudden, the Isles have won three straight and are right back in the playoff hunt.

Given up 46, 39 and 56 shots in those games. They’ve coughed up 35+ shots in 10 of their last 11.

They're still broken.

Gave up 42 shots last night in a 4-1 loss to the Devils - Definitely have to tighten these up, Halak is seeing more rubber than a dead skunk on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Isles fans crowdfunded a billboard saying "SNOW MUST GO", and all proceeds above the $5400 needed was to go to Anders Lee's charity. It passed that very quickly.

Anders, what say you?
