Screw all of you for saying Chris Webber
He and Magic are my favorite players in NBA History.

But, Howard should not have been the only Fab Fiver with jewelry.

If only his arm was a little longer....

I still can't watch this shit on ESPN Classics.

Well I'm having a tough time following. Are we saying the most overrated player, or one that didn't live up to the hype. While it can be the same, I think those are two separate categories.

Most overrated player: Allen Iverson.

I say this being a huge Iverson fan too. But he got a lot more love than he deserved because of his flashy play. But in the grand scheme of things, he was a highly inefficient player. He was a small guard who was a high volume shooter. People reference his lack of supporting cast, but if I knock Westbrook for being inefficient with a minimal supporting cast, I have to be at least consistent here and say the same about Iverson. He wasn't great defensively and gambled way too much. His steals numbers were always good, but he left himself out of position a lot of times because of his gambling.

Didn't live up to hype: OJ Mayo

Could have gone any of number of directions here, but I'm going with Mayo here. I didn't want to list complete busts because those are too easy. I also didn't want to list a player who was hampered by injury. I wanted to have a player who had a decent length career, but just never excelled to what he was projected to be. Mayo fits that for me. He was the top high school prospect in the country. He was a top collegiate player too and just kind of derailed his own career to an extent. He was decent, but no where near his selection spot at #3, when Russell Westbrook and Kevin Love were drafted immediately after him. (If you look back that 2008 draft was actually pretty deep for quality players).

I think Telfair was a bigger flop than OJ.

I actually had Telfair initially, but I wasn't even sure he was going to be a good player. I picked Mayo because I thought he would have a solid career.

Check out how many upvotes and downvotes Iverson has compared to the other Sixers greats. Its like people think that crossing MJ that one time makes him the greatest Sixer of all time.

Career Averages

Season 26.7
Playoffs 29.7

The guy was 6ft 165 pounds and played against human giants.

Alot of what you say is true about AI ..and in some respect may be overrated.
But he does not belong anywhere near the list as the most overrated.

Mine again was overrated in the sense of all-time great players. There have been tons of players who have been overrated in general, but it's easy to cherry pick those. i was attempting to pick a player universally considered a top 50 player and go from there.

Crazy how people rated him above Wilt, Moses and Barkley. LOL.
I think Iverson's all time playoff record is something like 30-42 with most of those games coming in the East at a time when the East had some really down years.

I think Iverson was a great player but not an all-time legend.

It wasn't all injuries with Webber. He gave us hope in Washington, came in his prime and failed to deliver. He once hit a tip in at the buzzer and said it was the first game winning shot of his career and that was no surprise to those of us who watched him closely. When the game was on the line Chris Webber committed a travel, Reggie Miller delivered a dagger.

Perhaps - but it was no reason to trade him for freaking Mitch Richmond & Otis Thorpe. Webber went on to do very well with the Kings. Wes Unseld has to be the worst GM in the history of sports!

I cringe seeing Christie in that picture. Biggest wuss ever. Fool's wife controlled his every move & she is no prize.

I was just thinking the other day about how bad of a GM he was. I was on sportstalk radio the day after that trade laughing at that Wizards as Al Koken, who was the stand in guy, disagreed saying "I'll take Strickland and Richmond all day". I pointed out their age and how it was a bad trade that day and in a few years it would look even worse. When I later heard Wes had only contacted the 2-3 teams that had the cap space to take on Webber's contract I nearly lost it. Another GM said they would have found the space if they knew he was available.

Derrick Rose

Interesting call. In his prime he was amazing, and I totally understand a player putting his health first and foremost. But he always acted as if he was doing the NBA a favor by taking their tens of millions of dollars and never appeared interested in sacrifice. Or winning for that matter.

Love the votes for Weber. He was soft gangsta wanna-be
Yep.

Intelligent Middle-class kid with a great family who always tried to pretend he came from the poverty in the hood.

Of course, I had Warriors, Bullets and Michigan jerseys with 2's or 4's on em though. But I realized before it was too late. And payed good money to boo him as a Piston.

He's the opposite of a winner.
