Gronk having like 25 more TD’s in only what 6 more games is what makes him better. Plus he has a better YPC than Kelce. Kelce has 600 more yards and 150 more catches but only because he has like 100 more targets. Kelce is great, but the only way to stop Gronk was to take him out of the game via injury because he was that dominant.

Year 2 Gronk I would agree with you (the best season a TE has ever had in the NFL). But injuries slowed him down very quickly. Year 4 on he simply wasnt the same threat in the passing game that Kelce has been his entire career (and still not slowing down).

To be fair, Kelce had 3,900 yards and 22 TDs in four seasons with Alex Smith. He was good before Mahomes took over.

People love to say a QB's best friend is a good running game but I wonder if a bigass TE who can catch is even better for a passer.

I think Gonzalez was the best at using his height, he caught alot of passes up high like they were rebounds on a basketball court.

Mahomes is clearly, if not the best, one of the best QBs in the league. But Kelce makes Mahomes look good more than the other way around.

In addition to his obvious physical catching & running ability he seems to have an uncanny knack for getting open and finding the dead spots in the zones. It's unreal how many time I see him apparently open when he should not be.

He fumbled 6 times in his career. Only once in his last 14 years.

It's close but Kelce still has some time left.....right now I'd give the slight edge to Kelce but he could make this easily in his favor if he keeps this up for another few seasons.

While I agree with the gist that Kelce has a ways to go, TG was on some really great offenses. I remember a struggling Chiefs team absolutely demolishing the Ravens when they had Ray Lewis and Ed Reed just because their oline was so stout. Atlanta also had some great weapons.

When all is said and done, I suspect Gronk will be the TE everyone should pick 'in their prime' and Tony G will be the best TE of all time. Kelce will probably be compared to Antonio Gates

Gronk is disqualified for attempting to steal valor (and insurance).... :heh:

I would love to have seen Tony with an actual HOF QB in this era. My sneaky feeling is it’s him, but Kelce is definitely challenging him and may surpass him which I thought to be completely impossible.

This is an excellent point. Gonzales never had a QB as good and innovative as Mahomes.

On the other hand, how good would Kelce be if Matt Cassell or Alex Smith was the QB?

I just searched his game by game log.

6 fumbles, 2 lost

Last fumble was 12/23/2006 vs. Oak
Last lost fumble 10/9/1999 vs. NE
so he had zero lost fumbles in his last 14 years :surprised:
