Hello everybody. :yo:
Your resident rookie hater reporting for duty.
Got a question for the board:

Kept hearing how the 2024 RB draft class basically has no starters or RB1. Think it was a FOX Sports article that even said about the RB: "No Clear Stars."

So why are our dynasty drafts leaning fairly heavily on RB who may not amount to anything?

A month ago I actually made a wish to a genie and asked that people would overdraft Corum as much as possible in my rookie drafts, and my wish came true!

They don't, they are leaning heavily on WRs.
In D2, there 27 WR drafted (i think) but almost as many RB. If the best RB is a long shot, what does that say about the 10th, 15th or 25th RB drafted?

you taking round 6 and round 7 WRs over the round 4 and round 5 RBs?
I get that they weren't a talented bunch, but they're still the RBs that are available to acquire, I'll drop some stats in a moment

The more and more pass happy the league gets, the more the market is flooded with viable receivers, lessoning their fantasy value individually, and fewer viable runners, increasing their value- simple supply and demand

That trend is the reason why RB's who can get touches are gold...not the opposite
I don't disagree - yes, RB's who get 20 touches a game are gold - there just aren't many of them coming in anymore - NFL teams seem to leaning towards the committee approach in drafts. If you can get an RB who fits that 20 touch bill - take him. ...

Truth be told, i drafted a RB too. And he's buried behind CMC. But i have legit reasons (and math) behind my pick.

56% of the WRs drafted were taken in the 1st two rounds, compared to only 36% of the RBs
22% of the WRs were taken in rounds 4 & 5, compared to 40% of the RBs

there's only so much talent at WR, people waited and used more of their less valuable picks on RB, so even tho the total was similar, if you look at it through a weighted lens, WR dominated this year's rookie draft compared to RBs

I waited a full round later than you to take a RB, and I also took one buried behind CMC. Unfortunately for you, this time next year, your guy will also be buried behind mine ;)

Well heck these days that golden benchmark is more like 12-15. 20 is just crazy outside of those very precious few.

Just skimmed over it, but looks like only 3 had 20 touches last year.
CMC, Barkley (missed gms) and Jacobs (missed gms)
White was on the threshhold.

Is that including catches - those count (in my mind) as touches ?
Yes, i sorted by "touches".
20 touches a game multiplied by 17 games is 340 touches.
320 for 16 games.
300 for 15.
280 for 14.
260 for 13.

More evidence that Henry is still the king. Not on that list, arguably the worst line in the league..#2 leading rusher

Just to follow up, looked at my spreadsheet data and divided the touches (rush attempts + receptions) and there were only 4 that averaged 20 touches per game:

21.7 Kyren Williams
21.2 CMC
20.8 Josh Jacobs
20.6 Saquon Barkley

Honorable mention to:
19.8 Rachaad White
19.6 Kamara
19.1 Etienne

Also worth noting only Etienne and White played all 17 games.

Speaking of which... of the RB who were healthy enough to play in (or get credit for) all 17 games:
Henry, Mixon & Pollard averaged 18+
Breece Hall alone averaged 17+
Bijan, Najee & Chuba averaged 16+
Singletary & Ford averaged 14+
