They have never really had that guy though.

Melo and Marbury were frauds. Good players, but also very overrated in terms of impact.

I do think Dame is the right type of player to do it there, but he would need a lot of help and Knick FO/ownership is very underwhelming.
Yeah it sounds like a match made in hell unless Lillard could recruit a star...even then like you mentioned what can the Knicks FO do to surround them, not much.

Stoudamire might've been that guy if his knees didn't give out.

But that was a known risk at the time.

Yeah, he had that team playing really well before Melo arrived.

They had some decent years with Melo too, but the roster built around Amare looked promising for a little while.

the problem with melo was trading for him when they probsbly could’ve just signed him as a fa.

much like Philly did with Tobias Harris

That works when the stars you acquire are LeBron and AD.

It doesn’t work as well when it is Melo and Amare.

The issue, IMO wasn’t as much what they gave up as what they built around.

But yeah, would have better with Melo as a FA. Still probably not enough to win a ring though.

hard to say with what they could’ve done with all those picks.

And you know all about the incompetent Dolan family as an Indians correction…I mean Guardians fan. That family just kills franchises.

The Cavs is a perfect situation. Give em Love, Garland another piece and 1st’s and it’s over with

He’s not going anywhere
The problem they have to give up a lot more than that…but not in their minds. Lillard for Simmons is just not fair. Throw in Maxey and 1st’s and it’s still a maybe

And how many 1st’s. Simmons not in same stratosphere as Dame
He’s not. But that’s not what happens in these situations. Once the star wants out the team that deals the star doesn’t get value back. 30 partners gets shrunk to 4-5 and among those 4 or 5, the Sixers offer of Simmons Maxey and draft picks would stack up pretty well. Blazers have done little to nothing to change their roster into a legit contender which is apparently why Dame was giving them some time. The fact that the Blazers have done little through the start of FA says they think he’s likely gone and that’s the next move they’re planning.

True but I'm sure they would get a ton of offers if they were to put Lillard on the block. For example, a guy like MPJ could be available with salaries to match. I'm sure a handful of teams would give up some of their assets for a player like Lillard to change their franchise. He just turned 31 so age isn't too concerning and his contract has a player option when he is 34, FA when he is 35. That seems like pretty good timing and they would get 3-4 of him. IMO that shoots his value up even more bc teams won't have to worry about losing him to FA.
