I don't think Lillard is getting traded this offseason. He really wants it to work in Portland but the Blazers are doing their best to test his limits. I bet he's traded next off season.

He’s not. But that’s not what happens in these situations. Once the star wants out the team that deals the star doesn’t get value back. 30 partners gets shrunk to 4-5 and among those 4 or 5, the Sixers offer of Simmons Maxey and draft picks would stack up pretty well. Blazers have done little to nothing to change their roster into a legit contender which is apparently why Dame was giving them some time. The fact that the Blazers have done little through the start of FA says they think he’s likely gone and that’s the next move they’re planning.
You think Simmons is close to Lillard? SMH

Yeah, you usually get a haul similar to what the Lakers got for Shaq. Which was Lamar Odom, Caron Butler, Brian Grant and a couple of future picks.

3 solid to very good players (Lamar was even an important part of 2 more titles), but together, they still don't add up to the player the Lakers lost.

I actually said “He’s not.” But I’ll double down now and remind you that whether it’s this off season, the trade deadline, or next off season, dude is gone because they don’t have the roster flexibility to build a winner around the guy.

Again, it's not about Simmons being close to Lillard. It's about what happens when a superstar wants out. I can't think of trade in NBA history where a superstar was traded and the team losing the superstar got anything close to the value of the guy they gave up.

That's why I hate when it becomes public that a superstar wants out. The team losing the superstar already isn't going to get equal value, the trade demand being made public makes it even worse.

That’s a fair assessment - but didn’t they say that in Milwaukee with Giannis? Dame did make it to Western Conference finals with limited cast.

Milwaukee has a better supporting cast than Portland.

Not a couple years ago they built around G. Blazers were building a championship team, as to my reference Western Conference finals. But injuries and Dame & CJ’s contract has limited FA’s. I’m not predicting a championship, but it can still be done. If Milwaukee can do it so can Portland. But at this point Dame may give up and go chase a ring. Not this year, time will tell.

Portland will never win a title.

That was 3 years ago and they were swept out of the WCF by the Warriors. Outside of that, it's first and second round exits (mostly first) and they haven't improved the roster since they made the WCF. They've been passed by 2 or 3 teams since then.

Makes little sense to me why Dame would continue to delay the inevitable just to be a year older. Maybe he has his heart set on a destination but wants to make sure they add on before he commits…thinking of the Knicks here.

That is an interesting spot for him.

Lilliard and Randle with Barrett as the # 3 and Rose off the bench as their 6th man.

Maybe. Maybe he just loves Portland and wants to give them every opportunity? Although, I think even Portland fans would says he's been plenty fair as far as giving them a chance.

No. The cast in Milwaukee was already better and had some flexibility. But most importantly, they are playing in the East which is generally an easier path in the playoffs.
