They throwing away a season then.Good point though that last part might rule out the Browns if they are even interested.

Not even saying it's not possible.......I'd have preferred they work it out with Baker. They throwing away a season then.
You guys have over 30 mill in cap space...Not even saying it's not possible.......I'd have preferred they work it out with Baker.
Yep....but need as much carry over as possible next year. You guys have over 30 mill in cap space...
I never saw a trade this season. SF can compete with any team in the division now and has built in insurance should Lance show games are over his head at this time. SF would of needed to be blown away with an offer.True. Even so, I doubt that a trade happens.
Exactly, this isn't about keeping Jimmy G. It's about their insecurities about Trey Lance. If they felt strongly about Lance, they would of cut him.
Prophetic...He should go to a team with shitty QBs like the 49ers
You're nuts if you don’t think somebody would of signed him if he got released nobody was trading for his contract. That's not true.
SF gets a quality backup. And by keeping him, they will now get a pick for him (comp pick). That comp pick could be as high as a 4th rounder. It made sense for them to do this all along once trading him didnt make sense.
What doesnt make sense is why Jimmy and his agent took this deal. Makes me think that no team with a questionable QB situation (NYG, NYJ, CLE ect) were even interested in him should he hit the FA market. Because that is basically what this move is saying. That Jimmy looked around the league and didnt see a soft landing spot for himself even if he were a FA.
Yeah, this makes it easier to trade for him. You're nuts if you don’t think somebody would of signed him if he got released nobody was trading for his contract.
Anyway you twist it, they don’t fully trust Lance and they shouldn't or you're just completely stupid if you did. Keeping Jimmy G keeps them competitive he is at least a game manager thst doesn't make a lot of bad plays. And it gives more time to Lance
The reason Jimmy G stayed, potential on the money knowing he has a great opportunity to start and the no trade clause where he decides where he goes.Yeah, this makes it easier to trade for him.
Especially, if a few weeks in a starter goes down and a team panicks.
He can waive to go to another team if a starter goes down and still audition for a job next season. The reason Jimmy G stayed, potential on the money knowing he has a great opportunity to start and the no trade clause where he decides where he goes.

Yeah, the Browns are an injury away from Dobbs or Rosen starting.....Could be, but it's such a cheap hedge, that it's a no brainer. Every team needs a good backup QB anyway.

Stop it. Saying he wouldn't get crap next offseason. LOL.I didnt say no one would sign him.
But obviously no one was going to sign him to be a primary backup. If a team like the Browns for instance would have had interest, he would have been cut today and not renegotiated his deal with the 49ers. Remember he had to agree to this new deal keeping him as a backup in a place that clearly didnt want him all that badly except in terms of what they could get for him. Because the Browns give him a way easier path to a decent contract next year than SF ever could.
It actually kind of worked out like it should have in the long run. Jimmy was a fucking idiot and screwed the 49ers by delaying surgery. Well now in the end the 49ers will get a comp pick, have a backup and the only real casualty in the whole situation is Garoppolo's contract next season. Because if he sits behind Lance all year like he is likely to do, he isnt getting crap on the open market next year. He now becomes the next Teddy Bridgewater in FA and not a guy who will be signed to be a starter.

He'd still get a contract next offseason....but he'd get MORE if he went somewhere and started this coming season.....rather than sitting behind Jimmy G.
Sure, if they needed him to.That's exactly what I was saying. It's kind of perfect that the only one hurt by his poor offseason choices now is basically him.
You think anyone is going to offer Jimmy a starter's job next offseason if he sits all year behind Lance? Not likely.
He now has a no trade clause.Yeah, this makes it easier to trade for him.
Especially, if a few weeks in a starter goes down and a team panicks.
just means he chooses where he goesHe now has a no trade clause.
Which seems like it would be harder to trade him.
