I was trying not to use his start against the Cubs as my main example. I don't think he's as far off as people think. IMO, he's a little fastball command from being OK.

And yes, its tough to bounce back from a year as the worst starter in MLB but Tim's got a few good examples to look to in his fellow staff for some advice. He wouldn't be the first guy to come back from the bottom.

I was listening to Bill Laskey yesterday and he thought all Timmah needed to do was change the grip on his FB from a two seamer to a four seamer. Timmy has zero control of his cutter and a four seamer, in addition to being much easier to control, would have the added advantage of picking up a couple mph.

Interesting thought.

out of those FA names .....i would say garza/feldman would be the best options

both are young-ish and should benefit from the pitching friendly at&t....(especially feldman)

feldman was pretty solid at the rangers ballpark....will have to wait and see how he does in wrigley

does anybody have any comments about these guys......need to see how garza bounces back

but both i think are around 30/31 and wont be very expensive if you need a FA arm

Depends on how long the Giants can depend on Vogelsong et others to pick up the slack.

Might just wait til the new flux of Giants arms come through the system. Sabean might work some reclamation magic to patch up any other holes.

Sabes likes saving his FA allowance on bolstering the bullpen anyways.

That's one thing where he's been either lucky or good in recent years. Casilla was pretty horrible before mid-way thru the 2010 season. Vogelsong. Machi. Maybe Gaudin this year. The trades for Pagan and Melky and Kontos before the 2012 season. The deadline trades (or waiver claims) to get Lopez, Ramirez, Mijares, Ross. Raiding the garbage heap for Huff, Burrell, Torres (2010), Mota, Uribe, and getting career years (or damn close) from them.

Not to say that he made nothing but good moves, but a surprising amount of shit he picked up turned to gold (or mediocre guys went to afterburners for a short time). I'm hoping that is a new-found skill, and not just luck (which it probably is, for the majority).

Time for a bump...

I'm no less certain after last night that Timmy is going to have to move to the bullpen like he did in the WS, if he wants to remain in the league.

I doubt it will happen this year but it is what it is. I ain't happy about it either, he was my favorite player along with Wilson and now both of their careers may be over. :tsk:

And if we don't get at least 4 of our starters pitching reliably well I don't see how we can repeat. Do we have enough offense to make up for it? We used to crow about how our formula was built for the playoffs, pitching and defense, which is why we surprise the experts when our 'inferior' team wins rings. It was always the pitching....

We still have the defense. I also have faith that Bum, Zeets and Cain will be OK. Not elite (maybe Bum will be), but OK.

Vogy and Timmeh are becoming black-holes. Unfortunately, we don't have any SPs in Fresno that can fill in, and while there are some in Richmond putting up good numbers, I just don't trust Richmond pitching numbers.

Luckly, we do have lots of depth in the system to make a deal for a #3 or two. Not sure we can afford (or would want to afford) a #1 or #2.

Maybe a late-season trade of Timmeh to Seattle for something? It would give them the jump on re-signing him, and maybe we could get a #2/#3 in return??? I am not looking at their roster, so I have no idea if there is an actual match there or not...

But that's my point, does our team with just OK starting pitching (and just 3 of the 5!) have any chance at all of doing anything meaningful this year? The realist in me says no not really.

Why would anyone want to trade value for Timmy right now, let alone try to get a jump on re-signing him?

I agree 100%. I wasn't offering a counter-point.

Marketing. You have to figure that the Ms will be out of it by that time, and having Timmeh on the bump for them should account for some butts in seats. We have all claimed (based on nothing but our assumed intelligence, of course) that Timmeh WANTS to pitch for the Ms. This would be their chance to negotiate with him on a home-town discount.

I would assume that we would be eating much of his remaining sal to get a 2/3 in return (again, I have no idea if Seattle even has a 2/3 on a 1 or 2 year deal that would work for this). That and/or toss in a couple of our B- guys (Duvall, maybe?).

The marketing aspect if the key to the deal. Not the on-field play of Timmeh...

I guess that would make Seattle the only possible trading partner, and a remote chance it seems. Would this version of Tim put that many more butts in the seats? He'd have maybe 10 starts, and only 5 at home, right? If an extra 2000 people come to see him each start (a stretch) that's maybe $150K extra revenue max...

TV revenue may be greater than in-stadium ticket sales. Don't know in Seattle's case. But don't leave that out of the equation.

Also Merchandise. I am not sure if the Ms are masters at that the way the Gs are, though...

I think Timmah is now a #3/#4 pitcher. Mid 4's ERA and takes the ball 30+ times a year. That's what he is. If he wants to get paid like that (8-10MM) then I think we re-sign him. If not, let him walk.

Bong night?

Problem is everyone in Seattle already has too many.

Isn't weed legal in Washington? He could legal do an ad campaign for a local dispensary...

This keeps getting better and better...

Yes! Put a dispensary in left field. "Timmy's Bleacher Buds".
