Out of nowhere I remembered a post I made back on KFFL when the trade up for Griffin was being discussed. IA remember I said (paraphrasing) "it makes a lot more sense to go after one of the highest rated QB in years than it does to draft Kirk Cousins and hope he turns into Ben Rothlisberger"

Oh the irony.

And I was doing the DAP (before it was invented), not because I thought Cousins was the next Big Ben but because I always thought Griffin was a shiny object and he presented some kind of insurance not to mention Shanahan was hedging his bet also.

Heard an interesting tidbit today. There are 481 UDA's in the league and 480 1st or 2nd round picks. The message, as much as we all value the draft (FINALLY) being good at selecting UDAs is very important also.

Baker, Kelley and Bates. That is just me remembering Kelley and looking at the top of the roster. There are more. I know we didn't select them all but I know the Skins and Kelley selected each other.

Looked into the roster and also found Ty Nyseke, Dashawn Phillips, Duke Ihenacho, Quinton Dunbar and Terrance Garvin.

Excerpt

He’s special,” Roethlisberger said of his dynamic receiver. “He attracts a lot of attention, deservedly so.”

But …

“Part of his success is having other guys around him. If it was just him … We’ve had Heath Miller and Martavis on the other side and Markus. And you have to have that,” Roethlisberger said. “AB, as special as he is, he can only be that special with some help. Otherwise guys can really double him.”

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman held Brown to 51 yards on six receptions last season, although that opened things up for Markus Wheaton, who caught nine passes for 201 yards in that game. With Wheaton’s shoulder problems, the Redskins might prefer to virtually ignore the opposite side of Brown, whether it be Wheaton, Sammie Coates or Darrius Heyward-Bey.

“He gets open on double-teams sometimes,” Roethlisberger said of Brown, “but not every time. And so the more that other guys can help, the better. There are going to be times when teams are really going to focus two guys’ energy on shutting him down. But it’s hard to do that when other guys step up.”

Good point from Keim

  • A key to watch Monday night: How the Steelers defend the Redskins' one-back, two-tight end set. Do they stick with their base defense? Or do they use nickel? That’s the dilemma Washington’s offense will pose for teams this season, because they have tight ends who are big pass threats. If the Steelers stay in base, the Redskins can attack matchups with Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis/Niles Paul. If Pittsburgh employs more nickel, it favors the Redskins' run game. Its tight end versatility will enable Washington to regulate defenses.
