When your offensive line sucks and you go spend money to improve it, signing players that suck will not improve it!

Yep...first team looked like shit against a team that's not expected to compete.

If the defense plays like that against the Saints the team has given up on Zimmer.

I've been saying since last season that I'm not entirely convinced that Zimmer is going to be the guy. He showed a lot of promise early on in his time with the Vikings, but last season revealed a lot of question marks. No doubt, there was a ton of adversity last season, but I remain unconvinced that Zimmer didn't lose the team to an extent beyond those obvious adversities. It's very difficult to justify starting out 5-0 and then missing the playoffs at 8-8 without at least questioning the coaching. Let's not forget when Xavier Rhodes and a couple other defensive backs decided to just ignore Zim's game plan against the Packers late last season for a half because they didn't believe in whatever he was trying to sell them.

That said, I won't write him off just yet, but the team needs to start stepping up. The offensive line sucks, but there's still too many weapons on offense for them to be THIS bad, and that defense has no excuse to be any worse than top 5 in the league. The defense should realistically be about top 3 if they performed at their highest level possible, but as you said, they are performing well below that currently. If they don't get it together for the regular season, then I'm ready to move on from Zimmer in 2018. This team is too good and too young to let it rot under a coach the players just don't believe in. He probably made a much better D coordinator than head coach, unfortunately.

Edit - Also, looks like I probably didn't jump the gun after all when I said this team is going to struggle to even match last season's 8-8, lol. Just another season as Vikings fans, I suppose...

I'd be willing to bet that Zimmer is at least very close to the hot seat, if he's not already there. This will be his fourth season. Frazier got four seasons, and Chilly got 4 1/2. As it stands, Zimmer has done marginally better than either of them. With the amount of young talent on that team, sliding to another .500 or worse record is unacceptable. The way things are looking, it could very well be worse than that this year. They can't afford to keep regressing as a team, so if Zim can't get something serious going this season, he needs to go to give a new coaching staff some time to build their vision and make a title run before their window is closed in a few years.

Probably the last week we will open a game with the announcers crowing about the Vikings' 'excellent' defense.

They looked like garbage.

Vikings admitted they didn't game plan, but still. I'm not going to panic too much over preseason, but distrubing our first string offense only managed 3 points in 3 games and far too often went backwards

If our D is shit, this could be an UGLY year

The o-line will need play better and take time, I do think we're deeper but will need to upgrade next year

Well, we will probably pick somewhere in the 8 - 12 range so we should be able to get a good tackle...
