Varlomov arrested on domestic violence charges

Innocent until proven guilty, fortunately. I'm not saying Varlomotron didn't do it; I'm saying that until it's proven in a court of law that he did it, he gets the presumption of innocence.

Of course, if/when he is proven guilty, I hope the (then) bastard gets the book thrown at him. Athletes shouldn't get the right to abuse others any more than an alcoholic redneck gets the right to beat his children.

I do tend to believe the victims in these claims though. I just want to believe people wouldn't lie about that sort of thing (though I'm sure some people absolutely would).

I agree with this - women tend to do these things so that they can get their 10 minutes of fame and $ out of it - Drew Doughty went through something similar last year when he was accused of r*pe - but nothing ever materialized there - now this case with Varly seems more serious from the out-set but we'll see what the results of this are

And now is when his and the NHLs lawyers will do everything in their power to make sure the most damning evidence isn't presented.

It's much easier to face court when the murder weapon has been disposed of. Again "Not guilty" does not equal "innocent". Usually just means enough evidence was successfully invalidated.



Had a child **** case once. I was asked three hours of questions by defense about my methods, my lab, my evidence storage. And not one about the giant folder of pictures of kids. As if how the evidence was found, cataloged and stored had any bearing on what that sick fucker was doing.

I often wonder if the "B-B-B-But she could be lying for fame and fortune" crowd even takes a second to imagine how illogical it is. A woman faces unbelievable amounts of unjust scrutiny in a situation like this and it's pretty crazy to imagine that a woman would willingly put herself through it for any reason.

In fact, I'd bet the flip side of that coin is more true. That there are more incidents that happen that don't get reported because the woman doesn't want to face off against the offender's fame and their league and team resources.

Way back in my undergrad I had to take a stats course geared at the spatial distribution of certain sociological events and indicators. One of the modules involved sexual, and domestic, assault in North America (excluding Mexico). My memory isn't what it used to be but I believe something in the order of 98-99% of reported assaults were genuine. The other side was obviously harder to track but based on a representative sample size it was deemed that only between 10-20% of all assaults was ever reported to the authorities, IIRC.

Women feel ashamed by being the victim in almost all of these cases. Almost never do they make this shit up and go public with it.
