There is two phases in the college football recruiting that I've seen:

There's the one where a staff works there ass off for an entire year, gets the kids to commit early,

then there is

the late surge from a new staff that goes out and turns the not committed or shall we say the kids backing out of prior committments and they put a class together real late and it shakes up the whole rankings...

I believe having Petersen as the coach of this program now is gonna really bring in some very good talent again...

Will be exciting to see what happens the next couple weeks because we got around 10 more recruits to land and behind the scenes, some surprises could be in the works. But at same time, expectations for final ranking needs to be right sized. Next year, it's officially on bigtime. But for this class, if we can find a couple that end up contributors and even jr and senior starters, that's all you can cross your fingers for.

Go Dawgs!

6' 165 pounds, room to grow on that frame if he stays at the RB spot, those "lite in the britches" RB's scare me sometimes, there fast as hell but the poundings they take aren't very nice....

Yahoo sports has him listed at 178.

LaMichael James, De'Anthony Thomas and Kenjon Barner were all undersized and did not have too much trouble in college football with it.

Big weekend as 10+ recruits and commits are visiting, plus many more the following 2 weekends before LOI week. It's lock and load time to finish strong for this class. Go Dawgs!!!

Holy!!!!

Oregon's 2014 recruiting class took a hit Friday when four-star Bellevue athlete Budda Baker – widely tabbed as the best 2014 recruit in the Northwest – de-committed from Mark Helfrich and the Ducks.
It was a bit of a shocker as Baker seemed solid to the Ducks as recent as a week ago. He confirmed via text he is no longer considering Oregon and is looking at UCLA and Washington.
The 4-star will visit Washington this weekend he confirmed. He will also visit UCLA before signing day.
He declined to go into great detail but had this message to send.
"It had nothing to do with the fans at Oregon. The are the biggest fans and tell them thank you. This is just something I decided I had to do. I'm only considering UCLA and Washington now."

But recruiting sites are now saying a flip to Washington is what this is looking like. What a flip on the Ducks by Petersen if true.

I'm with you.

I know he originally said if it wasn't Oregon he had UW second, but he also said he was a lock on Oregon and now is not. I'm not buying anything this kid says until he signs his letter.

Flip to UW could be in, but this could be about UCLA too. Mora has that Bellevue high connection and was using Myles Jack to assist in his recruiting of him.

Guess we'll find out by LOI, but if we do end up signing him, wow!

Agreed. But either way, he backed out of Oregon. Isn't that what really matters at the end of the day?

That was exactly my thought. Of course we would rather have a kid of his talent. Who wouldn't? But if he ends up going to UCLA at least that's one less athlete for Oregon and we will take that all day.

But very interesting that most of the recruiting gurus at 247sports are all crystal balling Baker and Carta-Samuels to Washington now. Nice to see we're in the mix for both. :hope:

Recruits are tweeting out about the visit weekend currently going on. Looks like they were all hanging at the stadium and football operations building this evening.

Hell of a selling point to be able to take them to the stadium and let them chill in the recruiting area with that view of the stadium and the lake. Almost unfair isn't it?

Can't help it if UW has the best CFB facilities and in the best setting on the west coast. That's just how the Dawgs roll.

So jazzed about how the 2014 class will build up in the coming weeks. Judging from the visit list booked so far. Whole lotta OKGs.

Go Dawgs!!!

I got a feeling the UW visit is a smoke screen just so he can pick UCLA, that way it does look he just backed out of the Oregon choice and headed south to UCLA...

Yeah he is close enough to Jack that you have to wonder if he had any involvement in Baker deciding to leave. I won't believe anything Baker says until LOI day, but then I don't get too hyped up over any of the kids until that time anyway as a rule.

Obviously getting Baker would dramatically raise our class ranking and could help convince a few of the other big guys left to go UW, but we will have to wait and see.

Baker had his official visit to UW this weekend and no new reports, but I wouldn't expect to hear anything until at least after his official visit to UCLA planned for Jan 24th. I'm sure by the end of that weekend he will have something to say about where he plans to go.

USC is buzzing that they believe they are in play for him, but there is nothing coming out of the scouting people about that. Not sure if that is wishful thinking or if he really is thinking about going with Sark to USC. He was said to have UW a close second behind Oregon when he committed to them and Sark was probably the one that got him that close so who knows.

The Baker decommit was pretty shocking. Maybe has to do with the coaching changes with Nike U.

And UCLAs DC Lou Spanos announced today he's leaving to coach the LBs for the Titans.

That's a hit to UCLA. A big one at this hour.
