Plus an improved APR, graduation rate, and no off field stuff.

Despite loud screaming from over-exuberant Trojan couch sitting fans, he probably deserves at least 1 more season.

It is fair.

But, he probably needs to get it back to 8-4 or better next season.

It is hard. World turns faster now. Now they have a head coach that has to start the season on the hot seat. That could effect recruiting. Once the fan base turns on you, it is an up hill battle.

Chip will take care of him soon enough. All it's going to take is a massive swing in recruiting. Clay's class is currently stuck in the lower-20s on most boards.

Personally, I am okay with this and even with AD Swann's reasoning.

While I know there are a some SC fans that will be all butthurt about this, I just don't see any real positives with firing Helton now.

I'm just about as disgusted with this season as anyone else, but as long as he cleans up his coaching staff, I think we will likely get back on track next season.

But... We shall see what happens next season.

I'm ready to FORGET this freakin' season, though!

Helton is gonna be a Gus Malzahn type that will put together a really good season to save his job and then go back to mediocrity until the seat starts to get warm again.

He has had by far the most talented team in the Pac 12 conference. Helton seems more like an AD or an assistant than the head guy.

Realize USC has an interim President right now. The school admin is trying to get beyond some shit that doesn’t involve the football program. Firing their highest paid employee and searching for a replacement isn’t something they want to do at this point.

Translation: the buy out Swann wrote into Helton's extension was too big for even Southern Cal to absorb. Brilliant move by an inexperienced AD to lock the school into a coach at a time that no one is exactly beating down the door to hire him away.
