How embarrassing. They are keeping a sub par coach so as to save some money. They paid cheap and got a cheap coach. This is just horrible news.

He has had by far the most talented team in the Pac 12 conference. Helton seems more like an AD or an assistant than the head guy.
He's ab average position coach; nothing more. USC should be ashamed of themselves for hiring this clown and for refusing to fire him once they saw how inept he really is.
SC's performance in the second half of games this year was very telling. Once half time adjustments are made Helton and his staff don't know what to do.

no worries, between the Warriors, Lakers/LeBron, 49ers, Chargers, Rams, you have plenty of things to follow besides USC football.

Southern Cal could probably eat the $20 million needed to buy Helton out, but they would have absolutely nothing to pay assistant coaches after they land their "marquee" hire.

This situation is not terrifically different from 2012 when they opted to keep Kiffin. the only exception is that it was the spectre of NCAA sanctions rather than payroll holding them back. But in the end, there were not good options available other than keeping what they had, because when everything was considered, they were in a position that precluded an upgrade.

SC has Lynn Swann to thank for this mess. There was no reason for him to extend Helton when he did other than pure hubris-fueled idiocy.

Illinois also gave Lovie Smith a 2 year extension despite averaging 3 wins per season under him.

That is a minor embarrassment. The real embarrassment is they have an unqualified man running the athletic department. USC should really have told Swann to keep his thoughts to himself and started a search for an experienced professional for their AD. After that is done they could make a decision on Helton. Right now why fire Helton if Swann is going to run the coaching search?

SC didn't give Helton an extension. He has a fat ass buyout you crybaby cvnt.

What has you jimmies all rustled today, good sir?

Never once said Helton got an extension. Just thought I'd post some news about another coach thought to be on the hot seat being brought back, but didn't think it was thread worthy.

Now simmer down, baby doll.

STFU. Only a crybaby cvnt would start a poll and add members to it because they have sand in their pvssy.

It was a thread started in good fun, but you threw a hissy fit because you're this board's overly sensitive crybaby bitch.

And Eric Cartman wants his line back.

Why did you delete your comments @AlaskaGuy ?

They still show up where I quoted them.

And FTR, feel free to use my name in any poll thread you wish to start here.

Its what the Trojans get for continuing to hire former iconic SC athletes as Athletic Director. Mike Garrett followed by Pat Haden did not teach them a thing and they went right to Lynn Swann.

I believe Helton did get an extension prior to this season through 2023 or so.

Mike Garrett represented everything that could be wrong with College Athletics in a single package. Pat Haden should have been a better AD than he was. His problem was that when push came to shove he did what the boosters told him to do. So in many ways, I think, Haden was a great success in the eyes of the boosters, right up until they needed a scapegoat for their own stupidity.

Perhaps that explains why USC would hire a person with absolutely zero experience in running an athletic department when they went with Lynn Swann. And now the entire college athletics world can see just how stupid they were.

3 full seasons as USC coach.
There is far far worse records.

Plus an improved APR, graduation rate, and no off the field stuff.

Despite loud screaming from over-exuberant Trojan couch sitting fans, he probably deserves at least 1 more season.

It is fair.

But, he probably needs to get it back to 8-4 or better next season.
Matt Boermeister,Jack Jones,Joseph Lewis,Bubba Bolden......Just to name a few. Could see this coming Swann was making the pitch yesterday. Looking like they keep Helton overhaul the staff. Ditch him after another bad season next year and Swann takes a hit

Wow.

They showed some fight last night...

What say you Trojans? Ready to pitch Swanny too?
What you didn't see during the SC/ND game. No way they were airing that. When boosters are selling their seats to ND fans.....This will not go well for Swann

You forgot the Dodgers, even if it's not baseball season.
