Simply not true. They had a procedure in place to review and only make public information relevant to the inquiry.

Allegedly they had something similar when they investigated the Miami Dolphins and Richie Incognito. And it worked perfectly well there (not).

The info that did Incognito in was relevant. Who knows about Brady? If you read his texts, he may come across as a real dirtbag, and have several other things going on that are seemly and reflect even worse on the Patriots. Honestly, I figure that if there wasn't something else bad on that phone, he would have turned it over.

Brady was not suspended for deflating footballs, he was suspended for conduct detrimental to the game for not cooperating with the investigation. If he would have turned over his cell phone my guess is he would have been fined. The truth will set you free and his not cooperating is why he got suspended. There is no doubt that the room attendants did something with the ball. Once again the team precluded a second interview with one of the room attendants. So by giving the league the finger they got crushed. I really think if they would have cooperated fully, admitted the room attendants did something to the ball, the get fined and move on.

It was a 5th interview. They had already given 4. The whole thing is/was a joke.

Middle finger that investigation every time.

Anyway, hopefully Garoppolo is good and we can trade for Brady!!!!!!

Nope. I'll bold it for you.

Wells Report Misleadingly Says Pats Shielded Ball Handler from Follow-Up Interview

“We believe the failure by the Patriots and its Counsel to produce [Jim] McNally for the requested follow-up interview violated the club’s obligations to cooperate with the investigation under the Policy on Integrity of the Game & Enforcement of League Rules and was inconsistent with public statements made by the Patriots pledging full cooperation with the investigation,” maintains the Wells Report. At best, the language (p. 20) proves misleading. It turns out, the Patriots made the employee in question, Jim McNally, available for three follow-up interviews. Only on the request for a fifth interrogation did the franchise say no more interviews for the game-day employee who lives 75 miles from Gillette Stadium. “I was offended by the comments made in the Wells Report in reference to not making an individual available for a follow-up interview,” Patriots owner Bob Kraft responded. “What the report fails to mention is that he had already been interviewed four times and we felt the fifth request for access was excessive for a part-time game day employee who has a full-time job with another employer.”

The report I read stated that it was only the 2nd request by Wells, that the other interviews had been performed by NFL security prior to Wells involvement.

I did read that too. Wells not reporting it that way shows where his biases lie. Conclusion first, fill in the "evidence" later. That's why his evidence is so shaky. He was interpreting things with an end in mind.

I also think the report is shaky in many ways, but I also don't think that it is on this point. He was writing from his perspective when he got involved. I believe the Patriots are just deflecting here.

The real problem here is that the NFL hasn't changed the way the balls are prepared before the game. Why should teams have any access to them before the game and why does each team have their own set?

I agree. I guess this all started a couple of years ago based on requests from the star QBs. But from what I hear, even the guys abiding by the rules are going to great lengths to "condition" the balls going as far as burning or rubbing thumb holes in them in just the right spot for that QB's hand.

Part of the issue seems to be that NIB balls, have a was on them that make them a little slippery. IMO, the manufacturers should start offering a conditioned or wax free ball, and both teams should play with the same ball right out of the box.

In no other sport is the ball or puck prepared especially for the player. In fact in baseball that would be highly illegal.

Pitchers are always doing it, but the ump can throw the ball out of the game. What always bothered me from the beginning of this nonsense until now is that before every single snap a referee is touching the ball, placing it on the ground. If there is something wrong with it, then go get another one. If it was fine for the referee to put on the field then it's fine to play with. All in all what a joke.

In baseball, they start every game with a NIB ball, and then if the ump sees even a little scuff on it, they will routinely just put it aside and play with a new one. Pitchers have no access to the balls before the game, and anything on the ball such as a cut or a foreign substance is reason enough to throw the ball out of play.

Can you imagine how it would change baseball if the ball was doctored for the pitcher before the game? Curveballs would be un-hittable. You have to figure that these balls with essentially custom thumbhole grips are greatly increasing throwing accuracy. The whole rule allowing these balls to be "conditioned" by the QB before the game really just seems wrong when you think about it.
