Many people know that Kirk Gibson is the only player to win an MVP award and never play in an All-Star game, but who are the only 3 players who won the MVP before appearing in their first All-Star Game?

Sparky Anderson(I was there for his #11 going up in Detroit) and Casey Stengel. It's gotta be.(Sparky might not have his # retired in Cincy, idk) Guessing on players, Frank Robinson, Harold Baines, Nolan Ryan, Babe Ruth (did he have a RS#?), Gary Carter, Andre Dawson, Rod Carew, and maybe a Niekro?
Correct on Sparky Anderson (#10 retired by the Reds and #11 retired by the Tigers) and Casey Stengal (#37 retired by the Yankees and Mets)

Nolan Ryan is correct (#30 retired by the Angels, #34 retired by the Rangers and Astros)
Rod Carew is correct (#29 retired by Angels and Twins)
Frank Robinson is correct (#20 retired by Orioles and Reds)

All others are incorrect.

Big CC? He was great for the Brewers for that short summer.
Correct! He threw 2 shutouts in the AL for the Indians (tied for the league lead with 7 other pitchers) and 3 in the NL for the Brewers (tied for the league lead with Ben Sheets)

Alright! The hint did it. That was one helluva season he had. Too bad for him he missed out on awards season on account of being traded.

Cobb is correct but Griffey is not. Griffey actually never hit a home run after he turned 40

Cobb, Staub and Sheffield, whose name doesn't rhyme but was a knob.

I have another one.

Who are the only 8 players and the only 2 managers who have had their numbers retired by multiple teams?

(I'll admit, I had no clue and had to look it up)

1) Frank Robinson - Reds and Orioles
2) Greg Maddux - Cubs and Braves
3) Nolan Ryan - Angels, Astros, and Rangers
4) Rollie Fingers - Athletics and Brewers
5) Hank Aaron - Braves and Brewers
6) Rod Carew - Twins and Angels
7) Carlton Fisk - Red Sox and White Sox
8) Reggie Jackson - Athletics and Yankees

There are two managers who have had their number retired by two teams ...

1) Casey Stengel - Yankees and Mets
2) Sparky Anderson - Reds and Tigers

I assume this question ignores all the players that won an MVP before the all-star game was created.

Justin Morneau is one
After that ... man, tough one. How about Ken Caminneti (sp), I know he had a breakout season the year he won the MVP (PEDs) and Frank Thomas? I remember he was pretty young when he won his first MVP.

Justin Morneau is correct, he won the MVP in 2006 and made his first All-Star team in 2007.

Frank Thomas is close but incorrect, he made his first All-Star team the same year he won the MVP in 1993. Ken Caminiti made his first All-Star Game in 1994 and went again in 1996 before winning the 1996 MVP
