This is interesting. Bobby Evans just said that the Yankees were targeting a specific Giants Big-leaguer in an Andrew Miller trade. Wouldn't say who, but can only be Crawford, Belt, Panik, or Duffy, and my guess would be Craw or Belt.

I'd almost bank on it being Panik.

Apparently we're still talking to the Reds about Jay Bruce. Not sure if we can afford him, plus Williamson has really stepped up lately. I'd rather see him continue to get more AB's and hopefully take over at LF with Pagan movin to CF.

Agreed. Mac would probably be part of the package, and I would much rather see him stick around. Maybe Bobby is hanging around to see if he can get Bruce cheaply, last minute deal.

My thoughts exactly.

With Arroyo and now Nunez, I think that makes Panik slightly available.

But I am not sure I like Trading Panik for a reliever, even a stud at the level of Miller.

Yeah Craw/Belt maybe too high to ask. Panik a Bronx kid would make sense. The Nunez trade has made me wonder if maybe there was something brewing.

All for naught, anyway, as Miller is in Cleveland...

If this trade were to go down, we would have traded for an infielder and an outfielder when the needs are most glaringly in the rotation and bullpen.

Cost.

The pitcher market this year has been ridiculous.

Doesn't mean we need an outfielder. Where would Bruce fit in anyway? The two outfielders that need to be replaced aren't going anywhere.
Can't argue that.

But adding Bruce to this lineup would be fun to watch.

Regardless, it won't happen. There just isn't enough increase to warrant the cost. I suspect it is more of a "kicking the tires" move, and maintaining relations with the Reds FO.

From the main MLB board:

Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports that the Rangers are targeting Jeremy Jeffress in addition to Jonathan Lucroy in any potential deal with the Brewers.

The negotiations are ongoing and constantly changing, but it looks as though the Rangers could look to upgrade their catcher position and bullpen in one fell swoop. Jeffress has recorded 25 saves in 26 chances on teh season, registering a 2.11 ERA in the process.

Jeffress would be a good get for the Giants (at the right price)....hope this doesn't happen

John Shea just tweeted that the Giants are making late and strong push for Bruce. Schulman is saying it makes sense for the team with Pagan being a free agent. Things are going to get interesting.

Williamson could give the same level of production at a far smaller salary.
