3 additional years of control with Smith, and if he's anything like his last year's self, that would actually be a pretty fair price.

The faith in Beede, Gregorio, Blackburn must be real. Sounds like we are still in on Moore, and he would fill a rotation spot cheaply for 3 addition years too.

Way too soon to know if it's an overpay. We have other pitching prospects. Some fans are just in love with farm kids, they all have comps and ceilings and potentials but most don't work. How's Crick doing, he was untouchable until he wasn't. How about Heston?

Evans is aware of everything we are and then 10x more.

Smith is young and we have control over him for 3 more years. I'm sure Evans pushed this deal hard for the big boys, but they weren't biting. Last year, Smith was an elite reliever.

Heston and Bickford are apples and oranges. Bickford and Crick are more comparable. I understand Bickford for a starting pitcher or an starting position player. I don't understand Bickford plus a position player for a mediocre relief pitcher. Don't see how he brings much improvement to the bullpen. Trading for the sake of getting a new guy is ridiculous if the new guy isn't an actual improvement.

Hardly an elite reliever. He was good against righties but lefties hit him to the tune of .247/.330/.455 in 2015. They are doing even better in 2016 .316/.333/.500.

It's most likely Bickford ends up a reliever himself. I hold out hope that he develops his changeup because he can be a #2 starter at his peak, but as of now most scouts believe he's a reliever which hurts his value.

Wow Susac AND Bickford for Will Smiff.

My condolences TZ.
I saw this one coming. He's a solid guy and goes to an org where he will start behind the dish at the ML level.

Good for him! I hope he kicks ass 156 games a year

A LOOGY who is giving up a .316 BA to lefties this year...

:gaah:
Not a LOOGY. He's a solid LHR who misses bats.

He’s also pretty good. Look past the 3.68 ERA or 4.27 FIP. That’s in a sample of 22 innings. The three seasons before that, he was one of the best left-handed relievers in baseball when it came to missing bats. He struck out just over 12 batters for every nine-innings he pitched from 2013 through last season. The list of leaders in K/9 for left-handed relievers during that stretch goes like this:

  1. Aroldis Chapman (16.34)
  2. Andrew Miller (14.61)
  3. Will Smith (12.2)

Yeah, I wouldn't understand that either. Good thing Smith isn't mediocre.

Still holding a little hope that they can acquire Matt Moore.
