So if randy Johnson was strikeing out 315batters with a 2.23ERA in 215 innings compared to the player that has 215 strikeouts a 2.54 ERA and 230 innings? Who would you choose? I would deff choose randy johnson

How many innings are you planning on Darvish tossing this season?

315 batters would be impressive. When's the last time anyone Kd 300? You planning on YD getting anywhere near there?

I think he gets 270-280 atleast assuming he still strikesout 9 per start

Probably over 210

He's not on pace for 200 is he? I can't support Cy Young candidates that don't hit that mark. Unless of course he's a reliever, which is a completely different animal.

He's averaging almost 7 inning per start. 7 times 11 starts=77+139= 216

He's on pace to go 202 with 271Ks. Felix however is on pace for 234 and 242. Scherzer 224 and 252. Those are signicantly more innings. Which I think significantly impacts their respective teams seasons, more than the strikeout rate. Ill just be honest, walks bother me. So Masterson, Darvish, Gio all are going to be looked at differently.

I stole those projections from CBS. They weren't using 11 more starts as a rule, but I think you're safe doing that. Especially just for conversations sake.

Ks are not "only just outs" like any other. They don't move runners over. They don't drive in runs (sac fly). Inning eaters are nice and if the discrepancy between 2 guys is huge it can be a difference maker. But a handful of innings doesn't make up for a big edge in whip or era.

I think those projections are iffy. Darvish is not pitching 5.5 innings a start IMO

If darvish has a 2.30-2.40ERA with 280 Ks in just 210 innings that's gonna blow voters away iMO

How many games do the Rangers have left? I'm not so sure CBS used 11 starts as any factor in the equation. As to the other guy, Ks are an out. Plain and simple. ERA and whip are relative as well. You will have guys who's ERA is a tad higher because he challenges late in games with a lead. Every stat has a story. But innings trump every other statistical category. They are a sign of work accomplished. That said I'm not listing the Mark Buehrles and Bronson Arroyos of the world. Every Cy Young candidate is going to have impressive stat lines, then ill take a look at their innings to see who held up their stat line more.

Problem is, he's not on pace to hit those marks. He might hit one of them, but that'd be one helluva close to his season. Is he your favorite player?

Yeah he is my favorite player lol but it would be something if he can get 270 nonetheless 280 that would be gawdy looking. But if you believe he can strikeout 9 per game in 11 starts. That gives you 99 Ks. Which puts him at 285 lol but 270-275 is more likely with only 10 starts

:) okay. I had to ask, since you're looking at this situation with all the possibilities being positive, all the outcomes being in Yu(and your)s favor. Not like I'm judging, I do the same thing with my favorite players. I just look at Yu's season and think "missed some time, needs to cut down on the walks, go deeper by cutting down on the balls..." More than I think Cy Young. But there aren't 10 pitchers I'd rather have on my staff moving forward than your guy.
