Johnson, Musial, Young, and Wagner are the big stat accumulators here for me. I think its hard to put too much distance between Aaron and these guys imo.

Hornsby and Clemens are the best on the board for me.

I'd probably be okay with any of these names at 9 tbh

I basically agree. I am thinking Hornsby, Clemens and Wagner as my top 3, but that is pretty fluid. I also jump between Hornsby and Wagner as top spot. I like Hornsby’s bat a LOT more, but Wagner was a SS and Hornsby was a water buffalo.

Rickey Henderson should really be getting more recognition at this point. With his combination of on base and base stealing ability, there was never a more dominant presence on the base paths. It is baseball after all, and noone has scored more runs than him.

His rankings in these things are usually docked due to his relatively average defense and power, but few have had his level of impact on the game.

I'm a little wishy-washy, especially on the third spot but I've been on Hornsby and Johnson for a while. I've thrown Schmidt in the 3 spot a couple times but I think I'm on Clemens for the moment.

I view Rickey’s power as a plus, not as a minus. His defense was a bit disappointing, given how fast he was, and the fact he was a left fielder is certainly a legit knock.

I have (still am) a huge supporter for his inclusion. But I think there are others who deserve my 3rd vote here above him. Though he is on my short list to get it. We are definitely starting to get into his neighborhood.

It looks like the new controversial name on the list is Shohei. It looks like he has a core of staunch supporters who vote for him every time, but basically no one new is going his way.

I understand he is a unicorn (more so than Rickey). But his book just isn’t finished yet. Taking his story, as written, he just doesn’t belong in the conversation YET.

I think he should be a lock for top 20. I suspect Johnson is getting 9 and then 10 will be wide open again.

Looking at what the runoff would be if the poll closed now (Johnson, Musial, Ohtani, Hornsby), I think you probably right. But that group probably holds the next 3 names on the board. I think Rickey will likely start getting serious love in the next 2 or 3 levels.

I’m one of the Ohtani voters. I know it’s a little inconsistent to vote for someone who hasn’t had a full dominant career yet but to me he’s that special and different and this isn’t scientific.

I also have been on the NFL boards saying Mahomes is GOAT over Brady. People are telling me it’s too soon but I saw both with my own eyes and Mahomes is better at playing the position so he has my vote.

Even if Shohei never played another game, he’d be worthy at these levels. Other than Babe Ruth, nobody in the history of the game has done the things he’s done. He’s already won 3 MVP’s(with another 9 years left on that contract). How many have even done that? The absurd 50/50 season is just the icing on the cake. He probably finishes top-3 if he stays healthy. And there will be little argument about it when the time comes.

Montana all day, and twice on Sundays (the only day that matters in a NFL discussion)

Agree on Ohtani, but disagree with Brady. Brady had the edge over Mahomes when they met head-to-head. I’m just going with that. If Mahomes tops 7 Super Bowl wins, I will reconsider this!

You taking Kelce over Gronk, too?

“Probably”
”9 mire years”

This isn’t an investment seminar. You aren’t betting on the come. As for the 3 MVP argument, LOTS of players still on the board have 3 MVPs in their trophy case (including Campy, who I criminally have not included on the list at all yet)

Nah. Brady basically had TWO of Montana’s careers. Let’s be honest.

(Am I sensing a similar poll ranking NFL players down the road???)
Brady was an accumulator! (but to his credit he accumulated a lot of rings)

As for an NFL poll, not by me. I am just a casual(+) NFL fan.

Montana and Brady played in different eras. Montana had a short career because he broke his back on the field while taking punishment Brady didn’t even have nightmares about. Penalties were called on the defenses playing against Brady that were awarded extra lost yards against Montana by the refs in his day.

Seriously, though, I was on the Brady GOAT train pretty early. He played the game that was put in front of him, and he dominated it for damn near two decades. The NFL Hall of fame should be renamed Brady Hall.

Stop it. You’ve never seen a talent like Ohtani on a baseball field before. None of us have. Bonds is the only guy to win MORE MVP’s than Ohtani(and others). I’m betting that he adds another along the way(we know the likes of Schmidt, Musial and Mantle won’t be adding more). Then what?

Campy! Haha.

With Rickey, I guess the question I have to ask is whether you would want the best base stealer of all time or one of the 5 best catchers of all time in their prime? I personally would take the catcher in their prime. Its just that over a career I'd take Rickey. Bench had 13 dominant years. Rickey by my count has 17.
