I have Ott, Robinson and Morgan in the same grouping

AROD if it wasnt for the stigma would easily be a top 15... probably top 10...

after the Ott, Morgan, Robinson tier... thats the Trout, Griffey tier...
ARod may be too 10 if he played baseball. For me, he is simply on the wrong side of MY line. If the board gets behind him, that’s fine. He just won’t ever get MY vote. But I think if he hasn’t gotten traction at this point, he is on the wrong side of “everyone’s” line.

yaz is in the trout, griffey tier...

also an interesting one though... he had that ONE season of SPECIAL... so maybe boost him to the Ott, Robinson, Morgan tier...
I would need to do a serious study, but initial thought is he is certainly below Robinson/Ott. I will need to do a solid study of Morgan/Collins/Lajoie to see how they rank. Trout is above Griffey (Yaz may belong in this discussion).

not quite sure about that... we are still in the elite bats... i think once we pass the Griffey, trout tier there is no argument NOT to pick Arod anymore...

And why hasn’t Sheffield gotten any mention? He has the Bonds/Ortis/Piazza stink, but he does NOT have the ARod/Cano/Palmeiro stink. And his numbers are ridiculous.

ARod is binary for me. But like I said, I have no problem if the board supports him somewhere.

I would like to see side by sides.... I've always had Yaz above Griffey (but I'm a Sox fan)...

Also, I tend to rank old timers higher than modern players...

Sheffield, even if there was no steroid stigma, would not be brought up yet... not even close IMO...

he is above Big Mac and Sosa... but below Manny...

Manny is one of the 4 binary players, though.

Sosa has the bat, but his PEDs stink is the same as Bonds, Pappi and McGwire. The bat is a stink all it’s own, though.

point was i dont think sheffield deserves even to be mentioned yet... i am probably 20 players away from him being a serious contender...

And when is it time to give the catchers a positional boost? Their hitting numbers will not compare to even lesser tier OFs but does being elite at defense at the most important position count enough? Does best ever catcher mean something? All those rings for Berra?
Look at WAR. Their defense is accounted for in those numbers. I don't think its time for them yet.

He'll be in a good battle with Vladimir Guerrero... When it comes around....

Now, looking at the poll results, all these guys we're talking about should be higher than Yogi, right? For catchers, shouldn't Bench go first?

(edit: Just noticed it has been mentioned already)

I think so, but Berra and Bench are close, so I can get behind either.

LOL

i was thinking about Vlad when we were talking about Sheffield... very interesting...

Yankee fans were so pissed off when the yankees chose Sheffield over Guerrero... but hindsight 20/20, sheffield was the better player...

I am a Bench guy, but I can get behind Berra if that is where the board is at.

But I think it is WAY late for catchers. But when I look at the players on the board, I can’t complain too much. Who should be removed in favor of Bench/Berra?
Yep it’s like all star snubs. Player X was robbed! Ok who do you remove?

Also Berra and Bench split the catcher votes so that’s a hindrance for them

WAR is unfair to catchers. They don’t have the longevity of other players, and their contributions are very unicornish.

more than just that... because then you look at WAR7, and catchers SHOULD be playing less than all other positions too per season...

The position is a total grind that just eats players’ bodies.
