Joe DiMaggio seems like both a lock to go top 20 and totally not most people's first pick at 18

Longevity pitcher vs peak pitcher.

WWII CF vs longevity 1B with impressive peak numbers.

i have been clear that I think the “modern” pitchers needed a full run, so…

Maddux
Martinez
DiMaggio
Pujols

but any could take this spot, and I would be happy. Damn near a coin flip here for me.

I think I'm also good with any of them. I just think that at some point Pedro's ERA+ numbers are too hard to ignore especially if we keep using it as an important stat. Maddux does have a great peak but its not as long as the other peaks on the list but Maddux is also probably the most well-rounded.

I know its too early to call but it looks like there is going to be a 2nd runoff for this spot.

We might have to do some sort of ranked choice here or something. I could see a scenario where Maddux, Pujols, and Pedro all get about 7 or 8 votes and there wont be enough DiMaggio votes to swing things

If we are unable to eliminate a vote-receiving option, I will just declare the top vote getter the winner.

Not ideal, but it is the easiest, best solution of a slew of bad solutions.

Too early to worry about it yet, though.

Agreed. Im just pretty sure Pujols has at least 2 more votes and Pedro has at least 2 more votes and Maddux has at least 1 more vote if others stay consistent. This is going to be really close.

I won’t vote if my vote brings Maddux up to tie both Pujols and Martinez (unless DiMaggio has votes). If Maddux, Martinez and Pujols all have the same number, and DiMaggio has no votes, then I will declare the winner.

I am not concerned that this will happen, though.

Might as well. Maybe only about a 10% chance of happening but weirdly its in play.

A 3-way tie isn’t really an option anymore.

Thats why I don’t get too excited on the early results…

I have noticed some players are pulling in unique voters that arent voting anywhere else.

Not sure I understand what you are saying here. We have essentially the same group of voters who are participating essentially every day.

We do. I think Hunter Montana has only voted Maddux and I think jwoltz has only voted Pujols. Its not a 100% constant group but thats probably a good thing to keep things interesting. Like I said, Im not too invested who wins here but I do have Maddux last.

FWIW ESPN has Pedro #11, Maddux #14, Clemens #17, and Johnson #24 overall. We could have almost the exact opposite order
