Sure, that makes a lot of sense. You judge the character of a team by the behavior of one player, a rotten apple in the bunch? What about the other 52 players? If you read the article you would know the guy was lying to many people, not only to the Pats. He was sweet and kind but had a dark side where he used heavy drugs and presumably killed several people?

Gimme a break, Planet Earth callin Hammerdown, do you read?

So the Patriots knew nothing? You're really going to stick with the "duped" bullshit? Just fucking WOW.

You are saying the Pats knew he was using drugs and planned to kill people?

Everyone in Gainesville Florida knew he was using drugs and had a very violent past associated with known gangs. The Patriots have retired FBI Special Agents on staff and you're telling me they hadn't even read Gainesville newspapers?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

He would not be the first pro player, of any major sport, that used drugs or had a violent background. You'd think the guy would leave his bad ways behind and look to a brighter future, a $40 million dollar future. Are you actually saying they knew he was still using, swept it under the rug, and said "no problem, nobody will know about this if we keep it under wraps?" That is hilarious, you are funny.

Okay, got it. So the solution was to give him $40,000,000. And how did that work out for you?

I agree with you Hammer, but to be quite honest, I lived in Gainesville for 5 years in college and 2 more years for work a few years later.. I never read the Gainesville Sun once that entire time! And that was in the late 80's and early 90's before the internet was good for news.

Forget about Kraft or Pats fans for a minute, I believe a lot of people are shocked. The guy was a damn good player and athlete. I think it is safe to say that most people believed he was on the right track after his difficult background. How you could juggle being a part-time thug AND a great NFL player is beyond the realm of understanding. He is definitely a study case for psychiatrists and other health professionals.

Did not work out well for the team. I honestly believe they paid him because of his performance and a belief that he had left his shady past behind. Do you honestly believe they paid him knowing he was doing the very nasty things he is accused of?

WOW...some of these people on here are just plan dumb! This has nothing to do with the NE Patriots, the NFL, or football in general. This is about a young man who had the world by the balls and threw it all away. This is about an man who was killed and a family that misses there son, cousin, friend. This is about a little girl who now has no father! To blame this on the NE Patriots is as stupid as blaming this on the Fla Gators for not saying something to NFL teams that he "maybe" a gang banger. If another team drafted him, which would have happened, would you still say the same shit? I think not, because you don't "hate" that team, as much as you "hate" NE. Which makes me laugh when a person actually "hates" a professional football team or player. Seriously, you "hate" a team....LOL.....Jealousy bread's hate, and there are a lot of jealous people on these boards. Not just for NE, but I see it on other team boards too. People can change, and it seemed AH had changed. It is shocking how sad some of you people on here actually are trying to blame the NE Patriots. Just sad. I guess Haters are gonna hate not matter what. Sometimes you need to seperate the game, from real life!!

Speaking of low-character football players, I thought this was pretty funny:
