I think you miss my point, which is that it's really too much of a burden for a fan of any team to account for the behavior of the players on the team he roots for.

Sure, that makes a lot of sense. You judge the character of a team by the behavior of one player, a rotten apple in the bunch? What about the other 52 players? If you read the article you would know the guy was lying to many people, not only to the Pats. He was sweet and kind but had a dark side where he used heavy drugs and presumably killed several people?
