Did it ever. Calgary stuns Edmonton in game 1 with a 3-2 OT win. Good start for the Hitties. Former Spokane Chief Brady Brassart with the OT winner.

I didn't see the game, but it sounds like Chris Driedger has a great night between the pipes for Calgary.

/Not really a Hitmen fan, but Calgary beating Edmonton never gets old.

By the sounds of it Driedger has been lights out in the playoffs Dash.

Always nice to see a Sens pick doing well. Should be in the W for at least one more year then I think this kid can, at the very least, be a solid AHL player for Binghamton.

This is kinda strange...Maybe our resident QMJHL expert juliansteed can provide more info.

Armada officially release former first rounder Matteau

I read a bit about it last night. This is very strange. I don't really have any additional information on this particular incident but I can say a bit about the team. That team has a lot of talent on it but appears to be very poorly managed, and not just because of this incident. Although this one is the worst.

I didn't know that his dad (Stephane Matteau) was an assistant coach with the Armada. That could make things a little tense around the dinner table.

I'll just drop this here...

SportsCentre: Connor McDavid has a hat-trick in the CAN/SWE World U18 game on #TSN right now. McDavid has 11pts in 4 games.

Canada blasts Sweden 6-0 earlier today.

Calgary keeping the pressure on Edmonton with a solid 5-2 win to take a 2-1 lead in that series. Kamloops up 5-1 on Portland after two, so if they hold on they'll be right back in that series.

Who would have thought that all you had to do to win 2 in a row after dropping the 1st 2 games of the series was cut your only player that has played in the NHL? Blainville-Boisbriand was down 2-0 to Baie Comeau when they released Stefan Matteau and tonight they tied it up at 2.

I see there was a little skirmish at the end of the game :D

Yeah here is a different angle of that fight. You just have to watch the game highlights first. It actually looks like it was a pretty good game. Defenceman and team captain Xavier Ouellet scores a hat trick.

Sorry for the french commentary for those of you who don't speak french. But I promise if you wait until near the end, you will understand at least 2 words during the goalie fight.

The big winners in all of this will be the Halifax Mooseheads who are up 3-0 in the other semi-final. :L

I just read that he hasn't been behind the bench for the past 2 games.

Suspensions and fines handed down as a result of last night's brawl...

Twelve players, both coaches suspended after QMJHL brawl

Including all 4 goaltenders. I'm just happy that no suspension will carry over to the finals for whichever team moves onto the face the Mooseheads who are now 12-0 in the playoffs.

After Patrick Roy's kid's incident of 5 years ago the Q wanted to crack down on fighting, specifically goalie fighting, which usually are mutually consented but were not in that incident in 2008. So they gave really stiff penalties for goalie fights. I believe it was an automatic 5 game suspension if you crossed the red line to engage in a fight. So obviously goalies can't realistically fight each other with at least 1 of them crossing the red line. Although it would be fun to watch them try. Some were saying that all 4 goalies should be suspended for 5 games here, among other lengthy suspensions. That would definitely taint any championship the Mooseheads almost certainly would have won under those circumstances. There's been a lot of talk about the Q favouring Quebec teams and not wanting a Maritime team to win the league for a 4th year in a row. I personally don't believe in conspiracy theories too much. I think it's just a matter of them not wanting to have a tainted final. Also where this all happened after the game, it made the rules a bit more ambiguous.

It will be interesting to see what the 2 teams are able to come up with for their 3rd and 4th string goalies for the next game. Imagine playing game 5 of a 2-2 series with both teams not only starting 3rd string goalies but also have many of their regulars out of the lineup due to suspension. I wonder if the Armada would consider trying to bring Matteau back to fill 1 of those spots, or if it would even be possible at this point.
