In a game where both teams had their top 2 goalies suspended, Baie Comeau beats Blainville-Boisbriand 2-1 in OT to take a 3-2 series lead. Blainville-Boisbriand even had to replace their 3rd string guy in the 3rd period with their 4th because of an injury.

The OT winner came on a play that was clearly offside. You can see it here at about 1:40.

Wow. Junior hockey refereeing just gets worse and worse. Reminds me of the Kootenay/Saint John memorial cup game a couple years ago where Kootenay scored the OT winner on a play that was offside.

And apparently this play led to a rule change in the Q. Starting next season potentially missed offside calls that lead to goals will be reviewed. Not sure where the line will be drawn on that. If the attacking team loses possession and then regains it before the other team leaves the zone and then scores, will that be reviewed? If the initial play leads to a shot and the goalie saves it and holds on then the team scores off the next face off I can't possibly imagine that would be reviewed but who knows?

The Q finals are now set. Baie Comeau beats Blainville-Boisbriand in 6 games and move onto face the Mooseheads in the finals.

An interesting storyline here is that Baie Comeau is actually the team that drafted Nathan MacKinnon but he refused to play for them. Unless he was traded to 1 of 4 teams (his home town Mooseheads obviously being 1 of them), he said that he would take the US prep school/NCAA route. Of course the fans in Baie Comeau haven't forgotten nor forgiven him for that. Even though my team was 1 of the 4 on his short list, I can't say I'm too impressed with that type of attitutde either. Would love to see Baie Comeau upset the Mooseheads with the help of some of the assets Halifax traded away to acquire MacKinnon.

The Dub final is set as well as Edmonton beat Calgary 2-0 in game 7 of their Eastern Conference series last night. Thus, we have a re-match of last year's WHL Championship final featuring Portland and Edmonton. Gotta give the edge to Portland as I think they're playing better and will obviously have the retribution factor.

Giants draft bantan phenom Tyler Benson with the 1st overall pick in the WHL bantam draft. Kid put up 146 points in 33 games (wowza).

Edmonton is also without Reinhart. Should still be a good series. The Oil Kings are deep on the blueline. Musil, Gernet (both Oilers property) amongst others. They also have Keegan Lowe (Kevin's kid).:D:

Game 1 of the Q finals between Halifax and Baie Comeau is scoreless half-way through the 2nd. I didn't see it but apparently in the 1st Drouin got 2 minutes for a hit from behind and people were saying he's lucky he didn't get 5. Could be a possible suspension.

Little surprised by that result to be honest. Thought the Oil Kings would be running on fumes after a tough 7 game series against Calgary and facing a rested Portland team.

Well the Mooseheads finally lose 1 in the playoffs. The lost 3-2 to Baie Comeau and have their series lead reduced to 2-1 in the Q finals. Thank God because I don't think I would have been able to stomach their fans had the gone 16-0 in the playoffs. Didn't see the game but apparently MacKinnon made 2 terrible passes that resulted in goals against.

Portland takes home ice back with a 3-1 win in Edmonton in game 3, to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Portland also led 2-1 after 3 games last year before losing the series in 7, however the Oil Kings had home ice in that one. Game 4 tomorrow.

So the Barrie Colts were down 3-1 to the London Knights after 2 periods....
then Mark Scheifele picked it up a notch.

4 goals in the 3rd, to pace the Colts to a 6-4 win.
that's 39 points in 19 playoffs games, a full dozen clear of the guy in 2nd place
